You know the you are either foolish or meant to be a musician if you are this tenacious and moving consistently forward. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Tug of War”, the latest from Wave Break. Originally created as an alt-rock back to primed to leave their mark on the alt-rock world, Wave Break began their tumultuous evolution into their current form. Wave Break took its current form back in 2018 when dedicated front-woman Kelly Barber was the only member remaining in the band, but she was prepared to introduce her sound to the world. Wave Break released its debut EP “Armory” in late 2018, gaining support from the likes of idobi Radio and New Noise Magazine as well as their growing fan base. They have even been able to perform alongside the likes of Boys of Fall, Secrets, and Kulick, extending their reach further. Now after the last few years of growth, Wave Break is just about to bring new music to the masses with their sophomore EP, being released this fall.
First off, we need to call out the pure dedication of Kelly Barber, as when so many lineup changes happen it often leads to the end of the project nine times out of ten. However, a talented one-person band has been proven to work (looking at you Panic at the Disco), so we can’t wait to see where Wave Break goes from here. The latest addition to the Wave Break catalog “Tug of War” is a solid alt-rock track the gives us both the grit of Garbage and the fun enjoyability of Paramore, all mixed into a modern blend. We may have just been introduced to Wave Break, but we can observe that their still-evolving sound is essentially an alternative balancing act. This style focuses on slick guitar riffs and melancholic lyrics, while still balancing the rest of the production so that no single element takes the center stage for very long. We are very interested to see how Wave Break continues to develop, so you definitely know that she will be back for another round.
