The Nut Job: Don’t Trust Raccoons

Hello everybody! Today’s review is of a family friendly film (for once). Today we have The Nut Job.

THE NUT JOB

DIRECTOR: Peter Lepeniotis

STARRING:  Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Gabriel Iglesias, Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl

GENRE: Animated Comedy

YEAR: 2014

COUNTRY: United States, Canada, South Korea

Plot Synopsis:

Surly, a curmudgeon, independent squirrel is banished from his park and forced to survive in the city. Lucky for him, he stumbles on the one thing that may be able to save his life, and the rest of park community, as they gear up for winter – Maury’s Nut Store.

Honestly, there really isn’t anything special about The Nut Job. It is a collaboration of some well-experienced voice actors trying to pull off a decent enough story to entertain the kids and not completely bore the adults to death. While The Nut Job’s story is mediocre, the one plus is the voice cast. There are very talented and deserve recognition. I am going to point out that Will Arnett should stop voice acting. Yes your voice works, but you are in everything! Please take a break.

The Nut Job is definitely far from being entertaining and enjoyable in comparison to other animated films, but it does its job. The Nut Job is a hit among the young demographic (my sister loved it, while I was in the middle of the road.) The story isn’t anything special, just a simple heist story and a tragic purple anti-hero (who just happens to be a squirrel). If you are some who is above the age of 13, this isn’t the movie for you, you still might enjoy it though.

PROS:

  • Voice acting cast.
  • Pace.
  • Entertains target demographic.

CONS:

  • Not funny.
  • Dated references.
  • Boring for anyone out of main demographic.

SCORE: 6.0 / 10
