Dylan Dog: Paranormal Investigator

Hello everybody! Today we have the action horror comedy film Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.

DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT

DIRECTOR: Kevin Munroe

STARRING: Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Anita Briem, Peter Stormare, Taye Digg

GENRE: Action Horror Comedy

YEAR: 2010

COUNTRY: United States

When things go bump in the night, Dylan Dog (Routh) is never far behind. Dylan has never met a monster that he couldn’t defeat, but when word gets out that a supernatural war is brewing in New Orleans, he realizes the stakes have just been raised. Zombies, vampires, and werewolves are about to go to battle, and the only thing that can stop them is an ancient relic. When the creatures of the night come out to play, Dylan Dog is the only one standing between humankind and a nightmarish new reality.

Dylan Dog:Dead of Night is just one of those films on Netflix that I can’t stop watching. I have seen Dylan Dog four times now, and every time I keep laughing at how bad it is. Brandon Routh does a decent job as Dylan Dog, while he strays far away from the original Italian comic character. Also, while the humor throughout the film is very dry, it tends to actually have some hilarious moments. Taye Digg also has a decent performance as a modern true-blood vampire, even to the point of texting while sentencing one of his underlings to twenty years in the crypt.

Alright, so Dylan Dog: Dead of Night is laughably bad and I am willing to admit that. Dylan Dog is one of my guilty pleasure movies that I put in when I want to watch a bad movie. Sam Huntington’s and Anita Briem’s performances are laughable (while Sam’s is supposed to be comic relief, but overall still lacked in many areas). The plot is a modest attempt at a big-screen adaptation at best, I could write a better story (which I am). I would also like to point out that there is definitely not enough action in the film to consider it an action-horror-comedy.

PROS:

  • Brandon Routh performance
  • Taye Diggs performance
  • Some hilarious moments.

CONS:

  • Laughably bad
  • Sam Huntington’s performance.
  • Anita Briem’s performance.
  • Simple story

SCORE: 5.5 / 10
