Badlands Releases Final Single, Ode to Her Mother “Let Go” + Full Album “Djinn” OUT NOW!

After plenty of weeks of teasing, the latest drop is finally here to kick off a spring coverage. Going back into the indie world we are finally checking out “Let Go” and Djinn, the latest album from the talented Badlands. The woman behind the moniker, Catharina Jaunviksna, found her love for creating music early on in her life.  Finding herself intrigued by DIY genres like punk and hardcore, it wasn’t until her teenage years that she discovered synths and sampling. Jaunviksna began her music career working in the filmmaking world crafting scores when she finally discovered her own musical identity. She became a touring musician on synths and keys for The Radio Dept. and founded Badlands in 2012. Since conception, Jaunviksna has attuned herself with the electro community in Dublin, Ireland, and even opened her own studio in Malmo.

“‘Let Go’ is a tribute to life and a study in the transience of everything. The track and video reflects how temporary everything is — one moment it’s there, the next it’s gone. Memories are cloudy and hard to trust, but they are what makes us. It represents the art of letting go and the different stages in that incredibly challenging process. But in the end, you’re free.”

Just ahead of her monumental album drop,  Badlands tops off her series of releases with the unique single “Let Go” and a brand new music video to enhance the experience. Another component of the Djinn story, “Let Go” serves as a memorial to Badlands’s mother, who passed away under mysterious circumstances. The track’s music video is essentially a home movie of Jaunviksna’s her mother throughout her childhood, an ode to one of the most important people in Juanviksna’s life. The music video was shot on authentic 16mm film from when her mother was growing up in Northern Sweden. While Djinn is a memorial to her mother as a whole, “Let Go” has to be our favorite ode so far. Djinn has finally dropped in full and you can check it out at the links below!
