The Matrix Revolutions: What the Hell?

TITLE: Matrix Revolutions

DIRECTOR: Wachowski Brothers

STARRING:  Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving

GENRE: Science Fiction

YEAR: 2005

COUNTRY: United States

Alright everybody, here is the final review for the last film in the Matrix trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions. Oh my god was this one horrible.

The Matrix Revolutions stars the majority of the original cast from the previous two films. Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving all reprise their roles as Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, and Agent Smith respectively. This film follows our group as they try to contact the Oracle and prevent the spread of the Agent Smith malware. However, this storyline makes up only half of the film. The other half follows another group of characters (who we briefly met in Matrix Reloaded) as they prepare for the machines’ invasion of Zion.

Alright, I am just going to warn y’all now, this is going to be a short paragraph. While I felt I gave the film a harsh score, Revolutions has very few redeeming qualities. The assault on Zion is actually a pretty cool scene, despite none of the main characters are involved until the end. The build up to that scene is also pretty interesting and intense, but Morpheus doesn’t give two shits.

There is so much wrong with The Matrix Revolutions that I don’t think I will be able to fit it into this one paragraph. The majority of our main characters aren’t really even doing anything for the first half of the film. The once cool choreography now looks like it ripped off Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Trinity is an absolute mess, she has lost her badassery from the first film. Don’t even get me started on the final battle between Smith and Neo. You know you are doing something wrong when Smith has been the same after three films and in the same role.

PROS:

  • Hugo Weaving Performance.
  • Keanu Reeves performance.
  • Laurence Fishburne performance.
  • Awesome Soundtrack

CONS:

  • Convoluted and confusing ending.
  • Carrie-Anne Moss is fucking annoying.
  • Complete disregard of rules set in first two films.
  • Ripoff of Crouching Tiger hidden dragon fight scenes.

SCORES: 5.0 / 10
