Domino portrays a loose adaptation of the life of Domino Harvey, bounty hunter extraordinaire. Domino is played by Keira Knightly, and her bounty hunting group Ed (Mickey Rourke) and Choco (Edgar ). The film follows Domino’s upbringing and the events leading up to the robbery of $10 million dollars from the owner of the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The film is narrated by Domino as she recalls the events for Special Agent (Lucy Liu).

Despite all of the criticism Domino received, I really enjoyed the film, there is plenty of characteristics that I liked. There was plenty of Tony Scott’s signature grittiness apparent throughout the film. Keira Knightly made an amazing performance as Domino Harvey, I actually believed this was her life. The low production value works completely with the theme of this film.

I really enjoyed Domino, despite all of its faults. I thought Mickey Rourke and Edgar were absolutely horrendous. They didn’t act as well as they should have, I felt they were just being dragged along on Domino’s ride. Don’t even get me started on the romantic arc between Choco and Domino. Stupid and wildly not needed. On the actual production side of things, how the story was told is way too convoluted. It has taken much time after the film was over to completely figure out what happened.

PROS:

  • Kiera Knightley’s performance
  • Tony Scott’s directing.
  • Gritty.

CONS:

  • Low production value.
  • Sub par acting from majority of cast.

SCORES: 6.5 / 10
