Somatoast Invites You To Experience the World of Sound in Concept Album “Creation is Creation”

We’ve been skating around this entire experience for weeks, so it’s about time for us to settle in. On our latest visit over to Gravitas we are checking out Creation is Creation, the full concept album from Somatoast. The concept of Somatoast was conceived by talented producer Mark Rubin after years of experimentation in the ambient and world genres. A multi-instrumentalist by trade, Rubin started his musical career by learning drums as a young child…merely sparking his love for learning instruments. Rubin would go on to learn piano, guitar, bass, and a number of percussive instruments, hitting the ground running in high school when he began writing songs and producing for local bands. Rubin continued his experimentation through music while he studied digital media in college, where Somatoast was born. Somatoast blossomed thanks to Austin’s live music scene, and some of his earliest performances can be found at local co-op parties and electronic music events.

“The soil that nurtures the flowers. The space that inspires your craft. The mood you set for your lover. The places that foster our children. The force that expands…- Somatoast

The longer we’ve been able to toy with and experience Creation is Creation, the more we’ve gone to appreciate the finer details and eccentricities within the album’s production.  For example, Somatoast focuses quite a bit on the project’s atmospheric tones using uncommon sounds, which is important to properly build a surreal world and experience within an album like this. The album’s 2nd track, “Dawn”, utilizes a live recording of a seed shaker that Somatoast uncovered in Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. The unusual sound the shaker creates adds more texture and additional layers to the track’s already enticing vibe, with this feeling being included on each of Somatoast’s tracks throughout the project. Each track throughout Creation is Creation has it’s own specialty, excluding the final track “Ooh Yeah”, which serves as more of an appreciation for these lush landscapes and nature itself. If you are a fan of off-the-wall experimental bass productions, Somatoast and Creation is Creation deserve your attention.
