Krewella Bursts Back Onto The Scene With Beauz In New Deep House Single “Never Been Hurt”

When we have the chance to cover a group that helped elevate our personal interest in a genre of music, you know that we have to drop on the opportunity. On our latest visit to Mixed Kids Records we are checking out “Never Been Hurt”, the latest drop from Krewella and Beauz. Bursting immediately onto the scene all the way back in 2012, Krewella appeared out of nowhere with their debut Party Hard album. The album, which now has over 130 million streams, is home to their now-certified platinum single “Alive” that has served as an introduction for many to the Krewella sound. These sisters have continued to explode since, with major hits like “Live For the Night” and “Enjoy the Ride”. Fun fact, Krewella has even nailed a coveted spot on Forbes “30 under 30” list. Makes multiple international tours seem a bit dull in comparison.

The inspiration of ‘Never Been Hurt‘ comes from the feeling of the body and heart slowly opening its doors again after being calloused by the pain of love. Surrendering to intimacy is a leap of faith, and in a way, memories of past loss or trauma become erased when we are ready to experience love again in its pure innocence. We wrote the song a few years ago and have been waiting for the right vibe to bring the song to the finish line. As sisters, we found it sweet to be collaborating with brothers Bernie and Johan Yang, and despite being confined to the internet during the pandemic, we managed to have a seamless flow of sending versions of the song back and forth.” – Krewella

Krewella has been one of our favorite artists that were responsible for inspiring us to make music. It’s so cool to work with the sisters since we are a brother duo. When we received ‘Never Been Hurt‘ from the girls, its dark and contemporary style, along with its story, immediately resonated with us. After several back and forths, we were able to come up with an edgy vocal chop lead complemented by an infectious bassline, as well as contributing our own vocals into this dream collaboration. We absolutely can’t wait to perform this gem along with the girls on stage when we return to the US.” – Beauz

With two insanely talented duos joining forces, we can’t help but get a little giddy for the outcome. While Krewella helped shape our interest in EDM in the early 2010s, Beauz inclusion into the single adds another layer of production to what could have been a more generic dance-pop track.  While “Never Been Hurt” is quite the departure from the soaring festival bangers we relate Krewella with, this single exists as an exploration for the duo into the dance-pop and deep house genres. “Never Been Hurt” thrives in its subtlety, with minor elements influenced by UK Garage, Krewella’s sultry allure, and Beauz’s vocal performances all adding more complexity to the track. While we are still major fans of Krewella’s hard-hitting original style, we definitely won’t complain if they expand their palette just a tad.
