Luna Shadows Kicks Off New Era With “gutspill”

Luna Shadows is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer, and engineer who has spent the past decade building a distinct space within alternative pop. A classically trained pianist who began writing songs at eight years old, she later studied vocals at LaGuardia High School before moving to California. Known for maintaining hands-on creative control, Shadows writes and produces much of her music herself, blending atmospheric pop, electronic textures, and intimate songwriting into carefully layered productions.

Her catalog has surpassed 60 million streams and earned support from outlets including Billboard, NYLON, W Magazine, PAPER, Wonderland Magazine, and LADYGUNN. Beyond her solo work, Shadows has contributed as a songwriter, producer, and engineer for other artists, while also composing and producing music for video games, continuing to expand her creative reach without losing the self-directed approach at the center of her work.

‘gutspill’ is a song about when you fear your feelings are about to fall out like confetti. You can try to hold them in or push them down, but ultimately, it’s more fun to let them out. Do it just for the plot. It’s a crush you can’t confess, an overwhelming emotion you can’t shake. It’s an ode to saying what you mean, even if you have to turn it into poetry and put it in a song.”

Luna Shadows returns with “gutspill,” a bright, emotionally charged single that blends crunchy Midwest emo-inspired guitars with the dreamy electronic production and layered vocals that define her sound. Co-written and co-produced with Chris Freeman of Hot Mulligan, the track channels the immediacy of early-2000s emo and pop-punk without feeling like a straight throwback, instead filtering that nostalgia through Shadows’ polished, atmospheric style and signaling a lighter, more playful era.

The accompanying video, featuring Freeman on guitar, continues that shift with Shadows’ first traditional band-style performance visual. Drawing from early-2000s alternative aesthetics, the clip was directed, produced, production designed, and edited by Shadows herself, reinforcing the hands-on creative control that remains at the center of her work.
