TEKE::TEKE is Back With 3rd Single Psych-Rock Single + Video “Doppelganger”, New Album “Hagata” Out on 6/9!
Every time we open a message with TEKE::TEKE, we never know what to expect and what surreal chaos we’re going to dive into. On our latest dive into to psych-rock world we are checking out “Doppelganger”, the latest drop from TEKE::TEKE. Originally formed as a tribute band for the legendary Takeshi Terauchi, TEKE::TEKE discovered their chemistry and quickly chucked their original cover sets out the window and adapted to a new sound. Based out of Montreal, TEKE::TEKE combines elements of traditional Japanese ballads with Brazillian psychedelic rock and punk music to make an original sound that only TEKE::TEKE could craft. Consistently fighting against genre norms and expanding their boundaries as musicians, TEKE::TEKE has created a magically terrifying musical universe that deserves the grow and envelop the world. Let the chaos ensue. “Meikyu” is the latest single off their upcoming debut album Shirushi, which will be dropping in full on May 7th. TEKE::TEKE even performed in a slot during this year’s SXSW Online festival!
“Being of mixed Japanese and French-Canadian culture, I always feel like in some way I’m living two parallel lives…a big part of me is here in Canada, obviously, but another part of me is on the other side of the
planet…this could be said about most of us in this band” – Sei Nakauchi Pelletier
TEKE::TEKE, the Japanese psych-rock band, has recently released the latest single, “Doppelganger,” from their upcoming sophomore album, “Hagata,” set to release on June 9 via Kill Rock Stars. The track beautifully reflects the duality of identity, with its balance between wistful orchestration and sentimental balladry. The band merges melancholy 70s Japanese pop ballads with intruding sixteenth note guitar and bass instrumental passages, creating a unique international milieu. The music video for “Doppelganger,” created by Pelletier and vocalist Maya Kuroki, was filmed during a recent trip to Japan, where Maya and Sei took their camera to Kyoto, Kamakura, and Chiba, places where they have family ties. The video features footage from their childhood and beautifully captures the essence of Japan’s culture and heritage.
TEKE::TEKE’s music is a perfect blend of modern and traditional Japanese culture, and their upcoming album is expected to showcase their exceptional talent and versatility. The band has already made a name for themselves in the international music scene with their distinct sound and powerful live performances.
