Sweetbreads Releases Debut Album ‘Punisher of Love’
Sweetbreads blends indie-folk and alt-country with thoughtful storytelling that feels deeply personal without ever losing its universal appeal. Her songs tackle everything from family and relationships to anxiety, hope, and the messy beauty of everyday life, all with an honesty that makes them easy to connect with. Since committing to music full-time in 2020, she’s earned a reputation for heartfelt live shows and has built a supportive creative community while performing at New York staples like Union Pool and Arlene’s Grocery.
Her new double single, “Ben” and “Satisfy,” offers an early preview of her debut album, Punisher of Love, produced by Quinn Devlin. The songs highlight her gift for pairing intimate songwriting with emotional depth, exploring love, identity, and the stories we tell ourselves along the way. She’ll celebrate the release with shows at Nublu and Sleepwalk before heading out on an East Coast tour with Jackqueline Hackett later this year.
“I think a lot of my life is shaped by my anxiety, and writing songs has always been a coping mechanism for processing my very large, overwhelming emotions. The funny thing is that most of my songs end up offering more questions than answers for why I am the way I am… but that’s what keeps me writing songs, you know?
“Although these songs are deeply personal, ‘Punisher of Love’ is a record that is about much more than my own struggles because it was made in community with so many people I love. I hope these songs encourage people to reach out and ask for help when they need it. I hope it offers support and nudges folks to practice self-compassion and fight against isolation.”
Sweetbreads, the project of New York City singer-songwriter Melody Stolpp, releases her debut album, Punisher of Love, a deeply personal indie-folk and alt-country record exploring love, identity, anxiety, and anxious attachment. Produced by Quinn Devlin, the album takes its name from a character Stolpp created to personify the anxious side of herself, allowing her to examine the fear, uncertainty, and emotional contradictions that often shape relationships. With warm, textured arrangements and intimate storytelling, the record embraces difficult questions rather than searching for easy answers, turning songwriting into a way of processing overwhelming emotions and learning to better understand herself.
Recorded with a close group of friends and musicians at The Creamery Studios in Greenpoint, Punisher of Love also became a celebration of community and connection. Though rooted in deeply personal experiences, Stolpp hopes the album encourages listeners to reach out for support, practice self-compassion, and resist isolation. Ultimately, the record finds comfort not in solving every uncertainty, but in learning how to live with those questions while allowing yourself to be seen.
