We may have received a simple taste of her sound last month, but this time we have to trim back the productions for a bare-bones performance. Today we are revisiting Sizzy Rocket, who just dropped an acoustic version of her previous drop “Rollerskating“. Officially debuting all the way back in 2016 with her first album Thrills, Sizzy Rocket almost immediately found success with her viral lead single “Bestie”. Now with all of these viral credits under her belt, Sizzy Rocket created this persona of your cool best friend…we all have that one we will easily cause chaos with. Having developed a cult-like following over the years since, Sizzy Rocket continues to feed and entertain the masses with projects like 2017’s Hot Summer mixtape and 2019 album GRRRL. When not working on her own projects, Sizzy writes songs for plenty of other girl pop artists and groups.
The acoustic video is a tribute to Laurel Canyon, where “Rollerskating” was first written and recorded. “[Laurel Canyon] is really magical and you can hear it in the song. The nighttime view in the beginning of the video is my best secret — you can see the whole city, it’s my absolute favorite.” – Sizzy Rocket
While we praised Sizzy’s use of electropop sounds to complement her story in the original version, this time around she strips everything back and uses only a sole guitar to serve as her partner. Personally, we think we prefer “Rollerskating” in this new format, as the single guitar matches the raw nature of the track and brings the entire piece to a more personal level. We mean, we are definitely biased…as we are suckers for simple musicians singing their hearts out the only way they know-how, with a guitar in their hand. The music video also paints Laurel Canyon, the location where “Rollerskating” originated, in a beautiful light that makes us long for local travel once again.
