If there is a genre that we genuinely wish didn’t fall to the wayside, it is disco. In our latest dive in the indie world we are checking out “Who Could Say No”, the latest single from singer Olivia Lunny. While not many of us remember artists and musicians that found their big break from reality music TV, there are still a few that break the trend. After bursting onto the scene two years ago following a win of the series The Launch, Olivia released her debut single “I Got You” which immediately debuted on Billboards Top 40. Starting off early in her career with plenty of early success, “I Got You” would even snag Olivia a nomination for Western Canadian Music Awards Pop Artist of the Year Not wanting the buzz to die down, she dropped her debut EP The Ones I Loved, which gave her international acclaim and millions of online streams and a SOCAN Young Canadian Songwriter Award. While the world struggled during the pandemic, Olivia partnered with other famous Canadian artists Avril Lavigne, Justin Beiber, and Michael Buble for a cover of “Lean On Me” to raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross.
With so much success found this early in her career Olivia even launched her own imprint Infinity & Recordings, where she will release her official debut album! While the album’s launch single “Sad to See You Happy” is finally starting to grow legs and grab the attention of US and Canadian radio, Olivia’s second single is here to help it blossom. “Who Could Say No” is an entertaining indie-pop number, blending modern alt-pop stylings with classic disco beats from a bygone era of music. While she had a clear vision in mind for the track’s composition, Olivie recruited aid from award-winning producers Boi-1da (Rihanna, Lana Del Rey) and YogiTheProducer (Kehlani, Jessie Reyez) to mold it into a reality. “Who Could Say No” oozes confidence out of every note and chord, giving listeners a more diverse look at Olivia as a musician. With now two tastes of Olivia’s upcoming album, we are excited to see what kind of other styles she will blend into her indie-pop sound.
