As an individual who has had such an impact on the electronic music community, we’re surprised that this hasn’t happened sooner. Today we are proud to announce part 1 of Redefine, a brand new mini-documentary all about Protocol’s founder Nicky Romero. documentaryRomero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. We are glad to see that Romero is back in the producing chair, as the modern industry still needs a bit more of his influence.
As we mentioned earlier, we are honestly surprised that no one has made Redefine sooner. This documentary series chronicles the three most distinct parts of Romero’s life, starting off with Romero’s initial rising career as a DJ. Part 1, dubbed as “Past”, gives fans a closer and more personal look at the success and struggles of an artist determined to thrive in the golden age of EDM. It is intriguing to see how Romero initially found his influence, from giving out water backstage to be closer to DJs or attending smaller events for inspiration from rising stars, “Past” shows us a bit of reassurance that everyone starts somewhere.
“As you gain experience, it’s not about the technical side, the technical side needs to be automatic…As you evolve and gain experience, you learn it’s all about the crowd – and that’s what matters.” – Nicky Romero
