Nicky Romero Continues His Genre Exploration With New Groovy House “Perception” EP

After you’ve been in the game for as long as Nicky Romero has, take every chance you get to tweak the formula of your style. On our latest visit over to Protocol Recordings we are checking out Perception, the newest EP from Nicky Romero. Romero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. Romero continues to surprise us, even dropping a mini-doc series back in 2019 and multiple successful releases now that he’s back on the wagon. Hell, he even put on one hell of a performance at the London opening of the Call of Duty League eSports tournament. Romero’s list of accomplishments keeps growing, now including a brand new partnership with Fader Pro and a release of his own NFT collection!

Over the past years, I’ve been producing different kinds of genres within dance music. At the beginning of 2022, I went back to my roots and started to try out producing more groovy and housey tracks. When I could play Ultra Music Festival again this year as the first major festival after two years, I wanted to drop “Pressure,” “Lose My Mind,” and “Work My Body” to see the main stage crowd’s reaction. The reception of these three tracks was truly amazing, so I couldn’t wait to go back to the studio to work on more music, and this is when I produced “Hear Me Now,” which perfectly concludes the ‘Perception‘ EP” – Nicky Romero

After spending the last few years exploring different musical avenues and genres, Romero decided at the beginning of 2022 to move back to his roots and start with a fresh injection of groove and house music. After seeing a bit of this exploration through Romero’s releases as Monocule, we knew that this was a road he needed to travel down as a producer. After premiering “Pressure”, “Lose My Mind”, and “Work My Body”, back at Ultra, the rest of the plan had formed. While we’ve always been fond of Romero’s fundamental sound, this exploration has uncovered other adjacent styles that we’ve slowly been attached to. We’re often excited for when a Romero release pops into our inbox, and as he continues his dive into the world of big room and tech-house music, we will continue to be thrilled most of the time.
