Elephant Stone Share Sweeping “Pilgrimage” Single + Lyric Video, Continuing Tease of Upcoming Album

If you have been around the Modern Neon community for some amount of time, you know we couldn’t truly enter 2024 without a dose of our favorite psy-rockers. On our latest visit up North we are checking out “Pilgrimage”, the latest single from Elephant Stone. Based out of Montreal, this modern psy-rock band was created by musician Rishi Dhir as a different creative outlet. After performing with bands such as The Datsons and The High Dials, Dhir discovered his love for the sitar and telling his personal experiences, thus giving birth to Elephant Stone. Dhir quickly made a name for himself as a renowned sitar player, collaborating with the likes of Beck, and legendary cult bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, The Dream Syndicate, and many more. Elephant Stone has been active since releasing their first album in 2009, and with their new EP on the horizon, fans of psych-rock need to take notice.

“In the early 2000s, I found myself crisscrossing America in a van, shoulder-to-shoulder with a motley crew of musicians…When you’re constantly on the move, it’s easy to build emotional walls, to isolate yourself even while surrounded by others. I am particularly prone to this.”

“During one tour, we found ourselves with a few days to spare in Oregon. Armed with ‘Two Buck Chuck,’ olive bread, and cheese from Trader Joe’s, I made my way to the coast. As I sat on the sand dunes, I watched the clouds roll in rapidly, becoming one with the tumultuous waves and the awe-inspiring might of nature. At that moment, it felt as though I had was on a pilgrimage to the ends of the Earth, seeking a personal communion with the divine. With ‘Pilgrimage’ I attempted to capture the essence of that journey—a voyage not just across the physical landscape, but through the intricate terrains of the soul, reminding us that sometimes, the most profound discoveries are made when we’re farthest from home.”

Montreal psych-rockers Elephant Stone have released “Pilgrimage,” the latest single from their upcoming album “Back Into the Dream.” The track, influenced by Talk Talk’s ambient sound, explores frontman Rishi Dhir’s reflections on personal journeys, both physical and spiritual. Drawing inspiration from touring experiences in the early 2000s, particularly in Oregon, Rishi describes sitting on the sand dunes, feeling a connection with nature and a sense of pilgrimage to the ends of the Earth. “Pilgrimage” aims to capture the essence of this transformative journey, emphasizing the profound discoveries made when farthest from home, both in external landscapes and the intricate terrains of the soul.
