Jan Blomqvist Transforms Carnage, The Martinez Brothers, & Elderbrook’s “Together” Into Dreamy Techno
Even though technically it was our introduction to the EDM world, frankly we don’t cover enough techno…so let’s change that. On our most recent visit over to Ultra Records we are checking out a brand new remix of Carnage’s “Together” from producer Jan Blomqvist. If you are unfamiliar with the works and career of Jan Blomqvist, where have you been for the last decade? A leading producer in the world of concert techno, Blomqvist has racked up over 700 performances over the course of his ten-year career, including monumental festivals such as Burning Man, Cercle, Coachella, Tomorrowland, Balaton Sound, Untold, Lightning in a Bottle, and Extrema Outdoor just to name a few. Over the course of his career he has released tracks on Stil vor Talent, Armada, Days Like Nights, Anjunadeep, and Sony, while crafting plenty of remixing for talented artists at numerous other labels. Blomqvist stands out from the rest of his peers by taking the traditional elements of techno and redefining them for the modern age, utilizing minimal vocal work and atmospheric beats to enhance his core sound.
As we mentioned previously, techno was the genre that actually introduced to the EDM world, so we are thrilled to feature an artist that is changing up the genre as we speak. Comparing Carnage’s original track to Blomqvist’s remix, Blomqvist does include the core elements of the original track yet expands upon them in his own way. The original version showcased Carnage’s softer side, but Blomqvist injects his driven house style into the mix to channel different energy into the track. Blomqvist’s “Together” utilizes atmospheric tones to transport the track into a dreamy soundscape, creating an almost larger-than-life feel. While Blomqvist thrives in the underground, with all of the success and praise the original version achieved this is his chance to step out of the shadow and into the spotlight. We need more dreamy techno in that light and it’s just waiting for Blomqvist to take that next step.
