Indie Pop Star Kat Saul Debuts Sophomore Coming of Age EP “Made in the 90’s”
After what feels like months and months of teasing, the next drop is finally here. Digging around in the indie world we have Made in the 90’s, the official sophomore effort from indie-pop singer Kat Saul. Hailing from Nashville but working hard out of the city of angels, Kat Saul burst onto the scene just last year yet her sound feels carefully crafted and evolved. An artist who could always thrive in her own slice of happiness, Kat was the fun cheerleader who also played guitar in her local rock band. Never one to be held back by genre borders, Kat would bump Top 40 in her car while on her way to a pop-punk concert. This idealogy is clear in her debut EP From Unit 408, which features tracks flowing in out of styles with ease and one mission in mind…for you to move those meat sacks of yours and dance along.
“‘made in the 90s’ is me reflecting on who I am and what I’ve been through as I transition into adult life so that I can process how the past has made me who I am…because that’s what art is right?,” Kat writes. “It was written over several years, in several different stages of life, and in several different cities. I live to perform and I write to get through the chaos of being human. I was made in the 90s, and this is what that sounds like to me.” – Kat Saul
While we’ve been teasing Made in the 90’s for the last few months, we’ve been eagerly awaiting this album for what feels like ages. The Made in the 90’s EP features three brand new songs, including the two previously released singles “Alright” and “Monsters“. The latest major effort from Kat Saul since her previous EP back in 2019, Saul uses Made in the 90’s to tell her own coming of age tale and just exactly how the past has molded her future. Saul doesn’t pretend like everything is all sunshine and roses, highlighting the unfortunate times of mental struggle as well as the good times littered throughout her journey. Saul takes both electro-pop sounds and alt-rock melodies and mashes them together, the result being that Kat Saul sound we know
