While an artist can win us over with a track the first time around, it’s rare to snag that same response on more than one version. On our most recent visit to Protocol we were teased with a brand new club mix of “Next To You”, the latest single from maestro Deniz Koyu. A veteran in the world of progressive and electro house, Koyu has been rather busy leading these genres and molding them into their modern iterations. With massive hits such as “Tung!”, “Bong”, and the house indie pop fusion that ended up as “Paradise”, Koyu is determined to assist these genres in growing back to their peak. Koyu has been diligently at work with KO:YU, releasing a few high profile remixes for The Chainsmokers and Alesso. We may not have many moments to just let Deniz take the stage, but he always adds a solid contribution to every track he collaborates in.
You may be asking yourself, “Wait a minute, didn’t you guys cover this back in June?” Why dear reader, the first time around we were treated to the summertime anthem version of “Next To You”, prior to Deniz heading back into the studio. After a bit more editing and mixing, Deniz popped on by again for this brand new club mix and quite the different result than the first time around. Slightly stripping away the track’s original carefree vibes, the club mix injects an upbeat synth and bounce bassline to prime the new mix for a more nighttime adventure tone. We may have been chilling by the beach with margaritas in hand at first, but now we are enticing that night’s stranger across the dance floor.
