Maya Killtron Says the Quiet Part Out Loud on Funk-Fuelled New Single “Receipts” (feat. Aquakultre)

Maya Killtron makes music at the intersection of past and future, blending funk, jazz, disco, pop, and soul with modern production and a style entirely her own. A classically trained violinist with years of experience as a backup vocalist, touring musician, and producer for Juno, Polaris, and Grammy-winning and nominated artists, Maya brings serious musicianship without sacrificing personality or fun. Her sound is nostalgic without feeling retro, pairing vintage grooves, shimmering textures, and soulful vocals with a forward-thinking edge that makes genre labels feel almost unnecessary

Maya Killtron is turning up the volume on accountability with her latest single, “Receipts,” a bold, infectious collaboration featuring Halifax artist and 2026 Polaris Music Prize-shortlisted Aquakultre. Blending the unmistakable grooves of ’80s funk with the pulsating energy of disco and modern house, the track finds Maya embracing a more unapologetic side of her artistry. Inspired by her experiences navigating the music industry as a woman, “Receipts” transforms frustration into an empowering statement about speaking up, standing your ground, and refusing to protect those who deserve to be called out. While her previous single, “Touch This Body,” explored the work required to maintain love and intimacy in a long-term relationship, “Receipts” takes a more confrontational approach. “In this industry we all have receipts. We should use them more,” Maya explains, adding that the song is about calling people out and standing by your words regardless of the consequences. “I’m finally in my villain era.”

The collaboration came together after Maya discovered Halifax producer Dalvay creating a beat live on TikTok and immediately reached out, sparking a creative partnership rooted in their shared appreciation for classic funk and forward-thinking dance music. Dalvay’s production brings vintage ’80s influences into a contemporary club setting, while a live performance from Re.verse bassist Diomo provides the song’s distinctive opening and driving bassline. Aquakultre’s appearance adds another layer of musical personality while strengthening the track’s connection to Halifax, a city that played an important role in Maya’s early career. From her first supporters and touring opportunities to the local venues and communities that welcomed her, the East Coast remains a meaningful part of her musical journey. The collaboration celebrates those connections while showcasing the natural chemistry between artists whose individual styles complement one another.

Beyond its message of empowerment, “Receipts” also reconnects Maya with her earlier years fronting house and club projects, bringing those dancefloor roots into the funk-driven sound that defines her current work. Sexy, confident, and unapologetically direct, the single proves that calling people out can sound just as good as it feels, especially when backed by an irresistible groove.
