Earthquake Lights Drops Introspective Album of Self-Reflection – ‘Signs of Life’ OUT NOW

Earthquake Lights, a four-piece rock band based in NYC, formed during their college years and quickly gained success with their debut EP. The band’s music, known for its genre-blending and innovative sound, achieved notable placements in a national NBA/Tissot ad campaign and an Alex Gibney documentary. Critical acclaim and recognition on Spotify editorial playlists followed, as did the inclusion of their tracks in Isabel Sandoval’s award-winning film, Lingua Franca. Earthquake Lights’ versatility was further highlighted with a feature on Vulfpeck’s album, “The Joy of Music, The Job of Real Estate.” Their story is a testament to the transformative power of passion and collaboration, as they continue to make waves in the music industry with their unique and resonant sound.

Brooklyn-based band Earthquake Lights doesn’t fit neatly into the alt-rock category they’re often placed in. Their sound blends orchestral strings and jazz influences, making their music feel sophisticated and almost classical at times. Their new album, “Signs of Life,” is a journey of self-reflection and personal growth, with tracks that range from deeply experimental to more immediately accessible. Drawing on influences like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Beck, the band creates a rich, layered sound that’s uniquely their own.

“We’re trying to make a timeless record that leans into traditions of music and playership, not the future of music. Samples and AI and drum loops are all amazing, but we’re trying to make records that celebrate humans. It took over 100 people to make this record, and I believe you can hear that in the sounds of this record.”

The album’s nine tracks explore themes of nostalgia, social media, and even extraterrestrial life. “Pictures” tells the story of someone romanticizing a past relationship through old photos, subtly commenting on how social media shapes our memories. “Silhouette” imagines a search for life beyond Earth, pondering the connection between music and space. And then there’s “Heartbeat,” a beautiful reminder to cherish our loved ones amidst life’s challenges. “Signs of Life” is a thoughtful and emotionally resonant album that showcases Earthquake Lights’ unique blend of musical styles.
