TEKE::TEKE Announce New Album “Hagata” Out June 9 via Kill Rock Stars | Share “Garakuta” Single + Animated Video via Consequence
While we feature quite an array of bands and artists on Modern Neon, there are only a few like today’s feature that lives in our heads rent-free. On our latest dive into the rock world we are checking out “Garakuta”, the newest single from TEKE::TEKE. Originally formed as a tribute band for the legendary Takeshi Terauchi, TEKE::TEKE discovered their chemistry and quickly chucked their original cover sets out the window and adapted to a new sound. Based out of Montreal, TEKE::TEKE combines elements of traditional Japanese ballads with Brazillian psychedelic rock and punk music to make an original sound that only TEKE::TEKE could craft. Consistently fighting against genre norms and expanding their boundaries as musicians, TEKE::TEKE has created a magically terrifying musical universe that deserves the grow and envelop the world. Let the chaos ensue. “Meikyu” is the latest single off their upcoming debut album Shirushi, which will be dropping in full on May 7th. TEKE::TEKE even performed in a slot during this year’s SXSW Online festival!
“Indeed, it’s a sort of anthemic song for the rebellion of wastes… I imagined a world where everything we throw out came back to protest… And I’m not necessarily only thinking from an environmental perspective, it is rather an analogy for anything or anybody that is cast out of society because they are considered useless by the norm.” – Kuroki (Vocalist)
TEKE::TEKE is easily one of the most unique acts that we’ve showcased on our little slice of the Internet, and it is definitely one where if they slide into our inbox, we know it has to be something good and chaotic. While the band hooked us from the start during the lead up to their debut album with their hard rock meets Japanese psy-rock sound, this latest single “Garakuta” reminds us of just how unique TEKE::TEKE’s sound truly is. Roughly meaning “goods of no more use or value”, “Garakuta” is TEKE::TEKE’s battle cry for those that have been tossed to the side by society. Framed by an enticing flute and regal guitar, the track is not just instrumentally intriguing but Kuroki’s gravelly vocal performance serves as icing on the cake. “Garakuta” is going to catch the attention out of sheer curiosity alone,
