lazerteamAfter thousands of years of thinking we are alone in the universe we decode a message (in the 60s) telling us we are not alone, and that the universe is a dangerous place and that we are going to be attacked. Luckily, the coded message came from a friendly alien race that fathered and protected us over the years. And now they are giving us the tools to fight back (in the form of power armor). But the delivery service takes a long time, and during those loooong decades waiting for that cargo ship to arrive with their one power suit, they choose a champion of earth to train to wear the suit and defend the earth! Then the ship finally arrives… Only to get shot down by 4 morons who play with the suit and ultimately get one piece each stuck to them. Now they need to work with the government to train these 4 morons with individual pieces attached to them. Will they save the day or will they stand around contemplating life?

Let me put this out there right now, I am not a major fan of Rooster Teeth. I acknowledge the contributions they have made to the YouTube medium and enjoy certain shows like RWBY and the Slo-Mo Guys. Lazer Team is an enjoyable comedic science fiction romp that you definitely shouldn’t take seriously. If you look at it from that point of view, then the cast is a solid choice for each role. I actually enjoy their approach to the average millenial, as they pretty much nailed it. Have to get those 1,000 likes. If you are a fan of Rooster Teeth, you will enjoy the film even more. For being primarily made by a group of YouTubers, Lazer Team isn’t actually half bad.

As you can tell upon first viewing, you can see Lazer Team was made on a miniscule budget of $2.5 million raised via crowdfunding. You can see how it would be improved by adding more money, but it actually wasn’t half bad for the amount of money they received. Thankfully comedy is subjective, so while the comedy in Lazer Team may not have been for me, it could be for you.

PROS:

  • Interesting premise.
  • Decent casting.
  • Entertaining for the most part.

CONS:

  • Would enjoy more if a fan of Rooster Teeth.
  • Should have just had a slightly larger budget.
  • Internet comedy.

SCORE: 7.0 / 10
