Talented Songwriter Anna Shoemaker Returns to +1 Records With New Hazy Synth Single “Sick!”
From hazy guitar riffs to emotive vocals, today’s artist is one that keeps coming back and winning us over each time. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Sick!”, the latest from Anna Shoemaker. Anna found her initial break into the music world via her own Soundcloud mashup of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” and Chance the Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses”. Now with almost 900k streams online, the track caught the eye of fashion mogul Steve Madden, who recruited Anna to his label. While Anna received a dose of praise when she dropped her debut EP East Side in 2018, it wasn’t until her sophomore drop Everything is Embarrassing released earlier this year that she popped on our radar. Spending the rest of 2020 casually dropping various singles, we can’t wait to see where 2021 takes Anna’s career.

Artists like Anna keep showing up in our feed, and while they may come with familiar material, each one shows us their approach to the subject, tweaking the formula to fit their framework. The latest addition to the Anna Shoemaker catalog, “Sick!”, treads on incredibly familiar territory…the fallout of a toxic relationship with a partner or close friend. However, Anna instead chooses to shift the meaning of the track away from the chaotic nature of the relationship to the feelings and possibly misplaced trauma after the fact. Letting Anna’s guitar work ride the waves while glittering synths take the reins, “Sick!” showcases the range of skills that Anna has in her repertoire. While many indie musicians come to publishers like us with similar material, if you can approach the track from a different perspective like Anna continues to do, we will definitely listen.
