Rising Indie Rock Singer/Songwriter YONAH Releases Debut Album ‘Bird of Miracles’
YONAH is a Brooklyn-based indie artist whose music feels deeply personal without ever being narrowly confessional. Raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, he writes from a place shaped by loss, faith, and the slow, often uncomfortable process of figuring himself out. His sound pulls from the emotional rawness of Elliott Smith and Adrianne Lenker, but also the sharper, more off-kilter instincts of Courtney Barnett and Beck, giving his work a balance of vulnerability and experimentation.
Across his EPs Love So Good (2023) and The House of Damage (2025), that blend becomes more defined—earlier songs leaning into gentle, intimate indie folk, while newer material stretches further into textured, experimental territory without losing its emotional core. He’s also been steadily building momentum in New York’s live scene, playing rooms like Nublu, City Winery New York City, and Pete’s Candy Store—spaces that suit his understated but immersive performances.
“This album is an ode to my father, a way of saying goodbye to my childhood, embracing adulthood, and accepting the man I’m becoming. I was always rebellious growing up, pushing back against religion, God, and the institutions I was raised in. It’s taken time, but I’ve come to love and respect where I come from, and I carry a deep gratitude for my father and the values he instilled in me. Religious or not, I owe my life to him, and the only way I can move forward is by blessing the past.”
YONAH introduces his debut album Bird of Miracles as a deeply personal coming-of-age project, shaped by grief, identity, and a long, complicated relationship with faith and family. He’s been previewing the record with singles like “Holler,” “Showdown,” and “Desert Horse,” which show off his experimental indie-rock sound and introspective writing style. Working with producer Harper James, the album expands on that foundation, blending raw emotion with more textured, atmospheric production.
At its core, Bird of Miracles is both a tribute to his late father and a reflection on who he’s becoming. The title comes from the Hebrew meaning of his name, “dove of miracles,” and the 11-track project moves through rebellion, questioning, and eventually acceptance. Yonah describes it as a way of making peace with his upbringing—stepping out of youthful resistance toward religion and authority, and arriving at a more grounded sense of gratitude for where he comes from and the values his father passed down.
