EXCLUSIVE: Sitting Down For A Quick Chat With Gwyn Love!

After covering multiple releases at different stages in their career, we finally snagged a chance to sit down with Gwyn Love to talk about their past, present, and future as a professional musician. For those of you who are unaware of Gwyn Love:

Gwyn Love began honing their talents early on with first picking up a cello at age 5. By age 11, Gwyn Love had already written their first song and was quickly on their way to discovering their own path down the music avenue. In the decade since, Love has tweaked their sound to become uniquely theirs, a blend of pop-electronica that we wouldn’t expect to find in small-town Oklahoma. Gwyn found a solid amount of success after the release of their debut EP At First Blush, with the EP’s lead single being picked up by popular playlists including Spotify’s “It’s A Bop”, Apple Music’s “New Music Daily” and Amazon’s “Fresh Pop” and “Brand New Music”

MN: Since you come from Oaklahoma, what finally made you make the decision to move to the City of Angels?
i’ve been wanting to move out here for as long as i can remember. the weather has influence on how i’m feeling and here it is always sunny which makes me feel happy. also there are a lot of creative minds out here and i wanted to be around more like-minded people.

MN: With so many alternative genres currently having their resurgence, what attracted you to electro-pop music?
i was drawn to electro-pop because it had a huge influence on me in my college years and made me feel things that other genres couldn’t.

MN: When did you discover that you had a knack for storytelling and that music was going to be your medium?
i started writing poetry and stories at an early age and it helped me so much to get my feelings out on paper. my mother says i used to make songs up on car drives and stare out the window, so i guess i’ve always sort of known.

MN:Do you have a dream project, whether it is a solo venture or a collaboration, that you want to accomplish in your professional music career?
i have a dream collab with LANY since they’re from oklahoma and moved to LA as well. I also really wanna go on tour with La+ch and Coleman Hell.

MN: Alright, our main writer wouldn’t let us live it down if we didn’t ask. Why do you not capitalize any of your song titles? It’s by far his pet peeve and has to fight the urge to capitalize them in his coverage.
i don’t capitalize when i type either so it’s sort of just my thing and it feels true to myself.

MN: We do have to say, we’re absolutely loving what you have been doing with La+ch. How did that partnership come to be?
604 Records connected us and thought it would be a good fit, turned out it was an amazing fit and i’m so thankful to get to work with him and call him my friend.

MN: We thoroughly enjoyed your debut album “dimr” and we know how much of a big step it is to finally drop your largest project to date. How did you feel once “dimr” was finally let loose on the masses? Do you consider that chapter of your career done as you continue to move forward?
i do consider that chapter of my life complete. i intend on leaning more into pop/punk and more electronic stuff from here on out.

MN:With us reporting on many of your singles since you debuted back in 2020 with “never have to see u again”, are you happy with the path you are currently on and that sound you have developed over the last two years?
my sound has developed and i have also developed. i feel like i’m growing more into who i am and want to be as an artist and it is evident in my music.
MN: Now let’s look at the future. With “good luck rly” being the first single after your debut album, do we have any more interesting singles or projects on the horizon?
i have a lot of super exciting stuff coming as well as a couple more singles with la+ch. this music i have coming up is the best i’ve made to date.
