Arkells Release Highly Anticipated New Album ‘Between Us,’ Out Now

Arkells have built their identity around a simple, consistent idea: everyone is welcome. Whether playing arenas, clubs, or intimate gatherings, they position themselves as a modern “house band” for shared experience—soundtracking both life’s biggest celebrations and its more difficult moments. Their music reflects that mission through an eclectic, accessible blend of alt-rock energy, classic soul warmth, indie edge, singer-songwriter intimacy, and contemporary R&B polish, creating songs designed to feel instantly familiar and emotionally inclusive.

That approach has helped them become one of Canada’s most prominent rock acts, with major success on radio, multiple JUNO Awards wins, and cultural reach spanning festivals like Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, as well as sports broadcasts and video games. Despite their scale, they maintain a strong sense of immediacy and connection, approaching every performance with renewed energy and a “we understand the assignment” mindset that keeps their shows feeling urgent, communal, and alive.

“Between Us is about connection –– not the hollow online kind we get when we’re scrolling –– but about the feeling we get in a shared space, appreciating the little gifts we offer one another, simply by existing with others. Friends or strangers. A band and an audience. It’s a call to remember that connection.”

Arkells’ Between Us finds the band widening their sound while keeping the heart-on-sleeve energy they’re known for. Produced by John Congleton—who’s worked with artists like St. Vincent and Death Cab for Cutie—the 11-track album leans into a mix of polished indie rock, synth-driven pop, and more experimental textures. The collaborative tracks help set the tone: “What’s On Your Mind?” pairs disco-leaning synths with the laid-back feel of Poolside, “Money” with Portugal. The Man brings a sharper, more urgent edge, and “Ride” featuring GROUPLOVE adds a breezy, feel-good lift that even translated into a standout live moment at the JUNO Awards in Hamilton.

Outside the features, the record moves between moods in a way that feels natural rather than calculated. There are stripped-back, more reflective songs like “Desire’s Got Some Questions,” alongside bigger indie rock moments like “Two Hearts” and the glowing, romantic “Imagine Barcelona.” Tracks like “Rumour” show a playful streak, while the closing song “Escape Door” lands on something more emotional and unsettled. Overall, Between Us feels like Arkells stretching out creatively without losing their sense of identity—still catchy, still anthemic, but a little more textured and introspective than before.
