MOMO. Unveils Eighth Album Tum Tum Tum, Shaped by Years of Movement and Collaboration
MOMO. is a London-based Brazilian multi-instrumentalist whose music reflects a life spent moving across countries and cultures, including time in Brazil, Angola, the United States, Spain, Portugal, and the UK. This global background informs a sound that blends Brazilian traditions with elements of jazz, folk, and broader global influences, resulting in work that resists easy categorization. Recognized by NPR as “an artist who transcends place” and praised by Mojo for his earlier releases, MOMO. has built a reputation for creating music shaped by cultural fluidity and lived experience rather than geographic boundaries.
On Tum Tum Tum, this perspective becomes especially clear, as the album reflects both artistic maturity and continuity. Rather than reinventing his sound, MOMO. leans into decades of accumulated experience, allowing travel, collaboration, and time to shape a cohesive musical language. The result is a confident and grounded record that emphasizes persistence and long-term creative practice, showing how sustained artistic growth can become a quiet but powerful form of strength.
Released via Agogo Records, Tum Tum Tum marks MOMO.’s eighth album and reflects two decades of steadily refining a musical identity rooted in Brazilian traditions, jazz, and folk influences. Recorded live in South London with the rhythm section from his previous album Gira, the record embraces spontaneity and close musical interaction, favoring open arrangements that allow groove, feel, and subtle dynamics to emerge naturally. MOMO. describes the album as an expression of “the quiet resilience of remaining in motion,” viewing creativity as a lifelong practice rather than a single defining moment.
Across its eight tracks, Tum Tum Tum highlights collaboration and cultural exchange. “Canto de Aldeia,” co-written with Nina Miranda of Smoke City, captures a playful and communal vision of childhood through a bilingual dialogue, while focus track “Morena,” co-written with Marcos Valle and Marcelo Camelo, pairs gentle bolero rhythms with warm horns and electric piano. Contributions from longtime collaborators Regis Damasceno, Caetano Malta, Rosie Turton, and Camelo help shape an album that values patience, shared musicianship, and allowing songs the time and space to fully reveal themselves.
