Hard Bass Producers GLD Debut With Sinister “Judgement Day” on Heavyweight Records
Dubstep may have been one of our first introductions into electronic music back in the day, it is rare that a dubstep track hooks us for multiple replays. Today, we took a beat over at Heavyweight Records for “Judgement Day”, a brand new single from dubstep producing duo GLD. Founded by friends Mattie and Jake, this duo is determined to use their music to make waves throughout society while being free from the traditional genre box. Hitting hard right outside of the gate, GLD draws from classic sounds like jazz and punk yet blends them together with hard electronic music to craft their own sound. Regardless of their intensity, they have already received support from the likes of Skrillex, Diplo, Flosstradamus, and NGHTMRE.
Starting right on the first beat, we have to applaud GLD’s ability to make a complete tonal and cinematic experience. While “Judgement Day” seems quite a bit grim for the current state of the world, GLD crafts a surreal end of the world track for the ages. Utilizing elements of both hard bass and glitch-hop, “Judgement Day” is definitely a track for the most intense bass heads out in the ether. The heavy bassline worbles and feels menacing while synths serrate and stab at you every other beat, resulting in an aggressive tone that we wouldn’t be surprised to see in a horror film any time now. While this could just be yet another hard bass track, what puts the icing on the cake is GLD’s use of a church organ during the interlude…it makes the sound so much more sinister.
