Gabry Ponte x R3HAB x Timmy Trumpet Remake Modern Version of Blondie’s 80’s Classic “Call Me”
When you dive back into the archives, you have to find the right single to pull into the modern world. On our latest visit over to Spinnin’ Records we are checking out a modern remake of “Call Me” from Gabry Ponte, R3HAB, and Timmy Trumpet. Since his adventure began, R3HAB has toured some of the best clubs in the world and amassed more than 300 million streams of his debut album. What is actually amazing however is that R3HAB was able to accomplish this with no major label backing, only working through his CYB3RPVNK imprint. Through his expanded efforts to increase CYB3RPVNK’s roster, R3HAB has been recruiting a fantastic variety of up-and-comers to provide a major range of music to his audience. With R3HAB consistently popping up on our radar, we have absolutely no idea what he is going to do next and can’t wait. We mean, just take a look. You might not recognize the name Gabry Ponte, but his 1990’s band Eiffel 65 might just ring a bell.
While we are all for bringing classics from the 70’s-90s back with a bit of modern flair, it is difficult to give an iconic band like Blondie the proper treatment. Blondie’s “Call Me” is easily one of the most iconic songs of the 1980’s, and choosing that single to bring into 2022 is a difficult task. However, through the combined efforts of Ponte, R3HAB, and Trumpet, we think this 2022 rendition does have legs to stand on and has a place in their respective catalogs. Taking a more-updated dance-pop approach to the track’s production, “Call Me” is as energetic and engaging as the 80’s original, just to a different audience. While we still appreciate Blondie’s 80’s original and all of its flaws, this new version has its place in the 2022 EDM landscape.
