Enigmatic producer Tripp St. Invokes Old-School Hip-Hop With Experimental Bass in “Gallery of Sound” EP

With more and more enigmatic artists and creators taking their turns in the spotlight, we never know how exactly to prepare ourselves for what we are about to subject ourselves to. On our latest visit to Wakaan we are checking out Gallery of Sound, the latest drop from Tripp St. Simply appearing out of nowhere and immediately connecting with their music, Tripp St. has been making waves in the modern bass community since their debut only a short while ago. While the anonymous Tripp St. may appear as a relative newcomer on paper, the unknown DJ behind the project has multiple years of experience as an audio engineer, producing hip hop music and studio engineering. In the short amount of time Tripp St. has been kicking around, they’ve already released a debut and sophomore LP, as well as numerous mixes that not only showcase their love of all genres under the bass music umbrella but also builds on the story of “Who is Tripp St.“? We mean, they’ve already worked with CloZee, with Tripp St.’s debut LP kicking off the launch of CloZee’s imprint Odyssey. Oh and did we forget to mention a national tour is underway?

“The inspiration for the title “Gallery of Sound” comes from the name of the first record store I bought music at when I was younger. They didn’t really enforce the age limits so I was able to get any cds I wanted growing up haha they throw free concerts in the back of the store and really made a cool little community for us while they could. I wanted to pay homage to those good times with this title.” – Tripp St.

When it comes to our ever-growing list of enigmatic producers, Tripp St. is in an entire tier of their own. While most of the mysterious producers we’ve featured on Modern Neon enjoy thriving in the experimental side of electronic music creating their surreal and elaborate soundscapes, Tripp St. finds themself in a position to flip the script. With the brand new Gallery of Sound being their first larger body of work since 2021, Tripp St. had to pull out all of the stops. Across six drastically different tracks, Tripp St. strikes a balance between modern bass music and old-school hip-hop that feels refreshing and nostalgic. While Tripp St. is no stranger to tweaking his style and formula in order to experiment. fans both old and new of Tripp St. will not be disappointed by Gallery of Sound. The more we dive and explore into bass music, we wish we started this exploration years ago.
