Doghouse: Only Women Become Zombies, Duh!

Hello everybody! Today we have the incredibly English zomedy Doghouse.

DOGHOUSE

DIRECTOR: Jake West

STARRING: Noel Clarke, Stephen Graham, Danny Dyer, Emil Marwa, Lee Ingleby, Keith-Lee Castle, Neil Maskell, Christina Cole

GENRE: Horror Comedy, Splatter Film

YEAR: 2009

COUNTRY: United Kingdom

Vince is handling his divorce badly. He’s depressed. Gone to pieces. But his mates aren’t giving up on him. Struggling with their own women troubles, they drag him off for an ultimate lads drinking weekend in the country. Arriving in the village of Moodley where the women outnumber the men 3:1, the boys find themselves holidaying in a village overrun by psychotic, homicidal Zombirds with a thirst for male flesh.

Doghouse is a slightly more English version of Shaun of the Dead, easily put. That’s it, we’re done. That’s all you need to know about Doghouse…fine I’ll continue the review.

Doghouse definitely has some moments and is a promising film overall. It definitely feels like a knock-off of Shaun of the Dead, but we need to give it some merit. Doghouse separates itself from  typical zombie films by changing up the story a bit with having only the women be infected and having them murder all of the men. The six main characters’ performances were great, they supported their characters the beat they could. I don’t do this often enough, but I have to give props to the costume and make-up teams. They really make those infected bitches look bat shit insane!

First, I have to mention that Doghouse is one stupid fucking movie. The plot isn’t very well written (then again besides the classics which zombie/infection films are well written?). There are many glaring plot holes, even more than should be inspected by this kind of film. Damn, the zombies/infected are super god damn persistent. Those zombie bitches just won’t give up! Total man haters. The secondary characters are absolutely horrible, even if there aren’t very many of the film. There is enough to bother me and enough to actually include it in this review. Still though.

PROS:

  • Decent knock-off of Shaun of the Dead.
  • Main character performances.
  • Only women are infected
  • Costume and Make-up design.

CONS:

  • Incredibly stupid film.
  • Not well written.
  • Glaring plot holes.
  • Secondary characters’ performances.

SCORE: 5.5 / 10
