Indie Folk Singer Mae Krell Drops Emotional Bluesy Single “rest stop”, Analysis of Friendships Ending

Sometimes life deserves to throw you a curveball of a situation, so you have to do your best to learn from it. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “rest stop”, the latest single from Mae Krell. While Krell is currently on a new musical journey after a two-year hiatus, Krell has worn many different hats in the music industry. From taking professional pictures for Rolling Stone and RGA to founding both online music publication Tongue Tied Magazine and the more recent Bitch MGMT multimedia PR agency, Krell racks up career milestones left and right. While Krell is now taking it one day at a time as an artist, their ambition knows no boundaries. At just 22 years of age, Krell is wise and more musically mature than many of her peers.

“I was sad and still processing a really painful friend breakup and just overall not in a great place. In writing ‘rest stop,’ I was learning that sometimes getting healthier and becoming more independent can end in a loss of a relationship. And, as this specific friendship ended, I started to realize that maybe it wasn’t as good for me as I thought it was.” – Mae Krell

There are moments and situations that we find ourselves in and while it may be a very poor situation, you can at least learn and feel some sort of inspiration to center yourself. One of these situations recently happened to Krell, who happened to pen “rest stop” after being temporarily stranded when her car ran out of gas at a rest stop. Overwhelmed and filled to the brim with emotions and a negative headspace, Krell utilized the emotional state they were in and channeled it into this single. The raw emotional state bleeds through the track’s lyrics, giving a much more personal look at the ashes of a friendship whose bridge had long since burned. “rest stop” peels back the multiple layer’s of Krell’s production and allows the listener to take a look at the situation through Krell’s own eyes, if only just for four minutes.
