Dea Doyle Returns with Heartfelt New Single “Marina”
West London-born singer-songwriter Dea Doyle returns with her deeply personal new single, “Marina,” marking the beginning of a more honest and emotionally vulnerable chapter in her music. After taking time away to reflect and grow, the track introduces what she calls “the most honest version of this project so far,” blending indie-pop with touches of folk, soul and classic singer-songwriter influences. Raised in a musical household and writing songs since the age of nine, Dea first built her sound around witty observations on relationships, but her newer work explores heavier, more personal experiences that have shaped her perspective over time.
Having previously released four singles and established herself on London’s live circuit, Dea’s return feels like a defining creative shift. “Marina” captures a more mature and reflective side of her songwriting, prioritizing emotional honesty and lived experience while maintaining the intimate storytelling that has always defined her music. More than just a comeback, the single sets the tone for a new era grounded in vulnerability, growth and self-discovery.
“Marina” sits at the emotional core of Dea Doyle’s new era, written in memory of her aunt who passed away from cancer. The track becomes a deeply personal meditation on grief, love and legacy, with Dea describing her aunt as her “favourite person” and “biggest inspiration,” adding that “all the best bits of me are her.” Rather than framing loss in a purely somber way, the song holds space for warmth and memory, capturing how absence continues to shape everyday life. Lines like “What I’d give to tell you all that you’ve missed since you’ve been gone” anchor that feeling of ongoing conversation with someone no longer here.
Recorded with producer Sophie Ackroyd and mastered by Izzy McPhee, the track was shaped in a collaborative, trust-driven environment that Dea says felt especially natural working with women in the studio. That sense of closeness extends into the music itself, with her father, Eamonn Doyle, contributing bass and backing vocals, adding another layer of family connection to a song already rooted in personal history. Sonically, “Marina” leans into a nostalgic palette influenced by Fleetwood Mac and contemporary pop with a subtle country edge, elevated by a standout guitar performance from Anthony Drennan (The Corrs, Genesis, Chris Rea), which Dea says “made the song sparkle.”
