Heavy Rockers The Violent Hour Release “Screenager” Video | Festival Performances This Fall At Louder Than Life and Aftershock

The Violent Hour emerged from a major turning point for Carla Harvey, who, after 15 years performing on some of heavy metal’s biggest stages, chose to channel uncertainty into the album she had always wanted to make. Writing alongside her partner, Charlie Benante of Anthrax and Pantera, Harvey found the music arriving quickly and instinctively—raw, personal, and unconcerned with recreating her past. The project soon developed into a full band featuring Kiana De León and Allie Kay on guitar, Jewel Steele on bass, and Sasha De León on drums, blending old-school rock ‘n’ roll grit, alternative and indie influences, and flashes of heavy metal.

Rather than chasing trends or fitting neatly into a genre, The Violent Hour puts songwriting and emotion first. The songs explore change, resilience, anger, vulnerability, and the process of rebuilding yourself when life takes an unexpected turn, with each track reflecting another piece of Harvey’s story. Heavy without being confined by metal and melodic without losing its bite, The Violent Hour represents a fresh start for Harvey—and an opportunity to make bold, deeply personal rock music entirely on her own terms.

“Our music video for ‘Screenager,’ directed by Vicente Cordero, brings the song’s commentary on digital isolation to life in a world where the screen eventually becomes impossible to escape. We performed live surrounded by a wall of static-filled televisions, and one by one, each band member gets ‘zapped’ into the screens, disappearing into the static as the performance
continues. What begins as a straightforward live performance slowly becomes a visual metaphor for the way technology consumes us, blurring the line between reality and the digital world.

This video was so much fun to make because we spent a good part of the shoot performing in front of a green screen so we could create the effect of being pulled into the TVs. It was hilarious watching each of us interact with the green screen and then seeing how those shots transformed into the finished effects. There was something really satisfying about watching the
concept come together piece by piece.

The imagery plays directly into the song’s themes of misinformation, online obsession, anonymity, and the loss of genuine human connection. We’re constantly surrounded by information, opinions, outrage, and manufactured reality, yet somehow becoming more isolated in the process. The question becomes: are we controlling the technology, or has it been
controlling us all along?”

The Violent Hour come out swinging on “Screenager,” a crushing, high-energy track that pairs Carla Harvey’s commanding vocals with relentless riffs before opening into huge, melodic choruses. Inspired musically by the aggression of early Metallica, the song turns that intensity toward modern digital culture, examining how endless scrolling, online validation, and carefully curated identities are beginning to replace genuine human connection. Harvey focuses particularly on the erosion of empathy online, where anonymity can make cruelty feel consequence-free even as people become more digitally connected than ever.

Adding another explosive moment, Attila Vörös delivers a guest guitar solo that combines ’80s-style shred with modern melodic metal. Heavy, urgent, and sharply contemporary, “Screenager” uses its collision of aggression and melody to confront a growing contradiction of online life: we have more ways to connect than ever before, yet genuine connection can feel increasingly difficult to find.
