HEDEGAARD releases second instalment of his ‘KIN’ album: ‘Monolith’ featuring MOGUAI & Brandon Beal
HEDEGAARD, a prominent figure in Nordic music, gained widespread recognition since his 2011 remix of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode.” Over the past decade, he has produced major hits such as “Happy Home” and “Twerk It Like Miley,” accumulating an astonishing 1.4 billion streams globally. His success extends to China, where “NYC BABY” and its localized version “BEIJING BABY” secured top spots on the QQ Music EDM Chart. The subsequent singles, “BORED” and “The Ones We Lost,” continued his streak, solidifying his status as the hottest EDM artist in China.
HEDEGAARD continues to expand the scope of his ambitious KIN project with the release of “Monolith,” a new collaboration with MOGUAI and Brandon Beal. Following the success of “Say My Name” with Arash, the track offers another glimpse into the Danish producer’s upcoming album and documentary series, Western China’s Melody. Blending his signature bass-heavy “Car Music” sound with cinematic production, Brandon Beal’s commanding vocals, and traditional Chinese influences, “Monolith” captures the project’s larger goal of bringing together modern electronic music and cultural traditions from across China.
The song is inspired by HEDEGAARD’s travels through Western China and serves as the soundtrack to the first episode of the documentary series. During his journey, he learned about Tibetan circle dances and the role music plays in expressing love, community, and identity. A key part of the track comes from Tibetan couple Nyima Lobsang and Gelsang Tsering, whose traditional love songs helped shape the song’s melodic foundation. Their contributions highlight the heart of KIN, a 10-track album inspired by 10 different regions of China that explores how music can connect people across cultures and generations.
