Cowboy Bepop The Movie: Spike!

Hello everybody! Today we have a special favorite anime film of mine, Cowboy Bepop: The Movie.

Cowboy Bepop: The Movie

GENRE: Thriller

DIRECTOR: Shinichirō Watanabe

WRITER: Keiko Nobumoto

YEAR:  2001

COUNTRY: Japan

The year is 2071. Following a terrorist bombing, a deadly virus is released on the populace of Mars and the government has issued a 300 million woo-long reward, the largest bounty in history, for the capture of whoever is behind it. The bounty hunter crew of the spaceship Bebop; Spike, Faye, Jet and Ed, take the case with hopes of cashing in the bounty. However, the mystery surrounding the man responsible, Vincent, goes deeper than they ever imagined, and they aren’t the only ones hunting him. The original creators of the virus have dispatched Electra to deal with Vincent and take out anyone who may stumble on the truth behind him. As the hunt for the man with no past and no future continues to escalate, they begin to question what about the world is reality and what is a dream as the line between sanity and insanity becomes more apparent.

Cowboy Bepop was a hilariously enjoyable film, despite me going into the viewing without seeing the original show (I have seen the original series since, but I really did enjoy the movie much more). What I really enjoyed about Cowboy Bepop: The Movie was Spike. Spike is the best thing about Cowboy Bepop, he is just so damn entertaining to watch and i wish I could work with him. While his whole crew of misfits are quite funny, Spike is just the best out of them all.

While I really enjoyed the Cowboy Bepop movie, but it definitely has its faults. Besides Spike and the main villain (whose name I can’t remember at the current time), most of the characters are completely one dimensional characters. They really only spend time building up Spike and the antagonist’s characters and completely neglect the others. What the fuck?

PROS:

  • Sympathy, Emotions, and Pathos
  • Beautiful atmosphere, ambiance
  • Spike kicking ass!
  • Interesting antagonist.

CONS:

  • Not as satisfying as show.
  • Need to watch show before movie.

SCORES: 8.0 / 10
