Canadian Pop Duo Mear Drop New Single “Soft Chains” Analyzing Toxic Relationships
the more pop musicians explore the boundaries and limitless possibilities, we start to discover new artists as they float up to the surface. As we dive into the indie pool we have “Soft Chains”, the latest single from Mear. Comprised of musicians Frances Miller and Greg Harrison, Mear is what happens when pop music clashes with the experimental. Originally formed back in 2018 by Miller herself, Mear had already released the debut EP Flood before connecting with Harrison. An electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Harrison and Miller joined forces to elevate Mear past its original potential. Over the last two years, both Miller and Harrison have continued to work and produce Mear’s first debut album, out soon.
While the events of 2020 were not in anyone’s plans, musicians like Mear use their available time to expand their catalog. The latest addition to the collection, “Soft Chains”, explores a common theme that everyone is familiar with in this day in age…toxic relationships. While Mear’s sound is normally soft and slightly upbeat, “Soft Chains” leans and touches the darkness as the track explores the ins and outs of toxicity. As a follow up from their earlier single “Perfect Mess”, “Soft Chains” fits the mood of 2020 way too well. While we are excited to see what is next in Mear’s career, we will have to wait until the Spring of 2021 for their first feature-length album.
