Black Dahlia Shares Lead Single “On The Run” From Forthcoming Album ‘The Imposter’
Black Dahlia is an experimental musician and performance artist whose work fuses theatre, sound, and surreal spectacle into immersive, dreamlike experiences. Drawing from performance art, mime, and avant-garde theatre, she creates worlds where masks, personas, and fantastical narratives collide, blending the alien with the intimately human. Her forthcoming album, The Imposter (out October 7, 2025 via her imprint School of Dahlia), is a theatrical concept record that unfolds like a surreal stage play. Following a lone wanderer known as the Imposter, the album traces his journey through interstellar limbo and a fractured, expressionist Earth, where he dons multiple masks and navigates strange encounters. His eventual transformation into the Amphibian Man symbolizes a grotesque yet liberating rebirth, reflecting the album’s central themes of identity, alienation, and self-reinvention. Written, produced, arranged, and performed entirely by Black Dahlia, The Imposter is a sprawling exploration of metamorphosis and the human condition through sound and spectacle.
The album’s lead single, “On The Run,” introduces listeners to the Imposter’s surreal journey, suspended between a lost Paradise and the fractured reality of Earth. Haunted by shadows of his own making and propelled by a restless search for meaning, he navigates a liminal space filled with masks, theatre, and the constant tension between belonging and alienation. The track evokes both vastness and isolation, offering a cinematic glimpse into the dreamlike world of The Imposter.
Musically, the album fuses science fiction atmospheres, surrealism, Bauhaus minimalism, progressive structures, mime, and German Expressionism, creating a universe entirely its own. Refusing to explain itself, it is a fully realized dream captured on vinyl, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in its heart and vision. The album’s artwork mirrors this duality, depicting one world folding into another, reflecting the Imposter’s fragmented journey and the transformative, shape-shifting spaces he inhabits.
