Viral Six-Piece Indie Rock Band Joy Again Expands Horizons With Dreamy Lo-fi Single “What Lovers Do”

With so many people in a single band, it is honestly surprised when we hear that everyone has equal input into the creative process. On our initial visit to Arista Records we are checking out “What Lovers Do”, the latest release from Joy Again. Consisting of Sachi DiSerafino [vocals, guitar], Arthur Shea [vocals, guitar], Blaise O’Brien [keys], Zachary Tyndall [keys], Will Butera [drums], and Kieran Ferris [bass], this six-piece indie rock act has been gaining momentum since 2014. While today’s single is their first with Arista Records, Joy Again has already garnered over 100 million streams while growing their online presence. This includes hundreds of thousands of TikTok videos, with their 2015 viral hit “Looking Out For You” gaining monstrous momentum over the last year. Thanks to their hard work and virality, Joy Again caught the eyes of tastemakers such as The FADER, OnesToWatchAtwood MagazineEARMILK, Alt Citizen, and NME just to name a few.

When you have a viral hit that racks up not only millions of streams but hundreds of millions of streams, you have to capitalize on it. With “What Lovers Do” being the latest addition to the Joy Again catalog, we are able to look deeper into the band’s process beyond the virality…especially since many acts on TikTok can have one viral hit and then disappear. A softer and more introspective song in comparison to their swing-song indie rock nature in “Looking Out For You”, this time around Joy Again showcases their interest in storytelling and exploring the finite nature of human relationships. While it may be a departure from the indie rock we’ve seen previously, “What Lovers Do” challenges the band into incorporating previous elements that they have put forth to the masses in a new lo-fi framework. Do you think Joy Again has what it takes to stay in the viral spotlight? Only time will tell, but this expansion in scope looks promising.
