WWE NXT |4-17-14|- Oliver Gray Returns!

Hello my friends, and welcome to my review of April seventeenth edition of NXT! Tonight’s advertised main event match up puts Brodus Clay against NXT World Champion, Adrian Neville! Will Neville be able to shut Clay up? or Will Brodus back up everything he says! Let’s find out!

Colin Cassady vs. Aiden English

Starting off the night with a classic rivalry in NXT, as Big Cass takes on one of his more recent rivals Aiden English. Cass, still seems pretty over with the crowd, Whenever he spells out SAWFT, The spell it with him! I really feel we have a future World Champion and future Top Star in the WWE laying deep inside Colin Cassady! Of course Aiden English is no weakling. English took former WWE & World Heavyweight Champion, Shemaus to the limit a few weeks back! These two are perfect for each other. I’m sure both will go on to have greater rivalries with other superstars, but for both of them to be each others first rivalry, there is something special there! These two just honestly click! Tonight, they put on there best match to date. There rivalry was heavily highlighted, from the commentators talking about their past, to Aiden taunting and screaming at Colin during the match. The ending was fun as it showed both men have learned from their previous encounters as they countered each others finishing move, but as Big Cass looked to finish English off, English quickly rolled Cassady up and grabbed a handful of tights to guarantee him the victory!

Winner- Aiden English

Rating -7\10: A great opening match here tonight. I said before these two put on their best match together, as of this date! I’m excited to see how far this rivalry goes, and if it extends into another and maybe finds its way into a Championship feud. I feel both men are main event talents for NXT, but Once/If Aiden ever makes it to the main roster, he is going to have a hard time getting his character over, but as for Cass I feel if the WWE let’s Colin be himself you may have yourself the next Top Guy! Tonight though, English beats Cass again, but this time having the cheat to win and looks like these two are not done with each other yet.

Backstage Interview W/ Tyler Breeze

Devin Taylor is in the back to introduce Tyler Breeze, but Breeze shows her his phone and has her re-introduce him as a bunch of his nicknames. Devin than goes on to ask Breeze what he wanted to say to the NXT Universe since he requested this time, Breeze responded by saying, he had nothing to say and just though the show needed a little gorgeousness! An interesting promo, that honestly does little to nothing. The only thing I guess the accomplished was making sure Breeze is in the mind of everyone still, hopefully he is in action tonight!

A Highlight of the WWE Divas Champion & NXT Womens Champion – Paige

The highlight starts off just like all the rest, highlighting Paige in NXT, but this time they showed of her surprise victory over Aj Lee for the Divas Championship. We see all the WWE Divas congratulating Paige and hugging her as Paige cries tears of joy over accomplishing her dream! It was a great package that really made a big deal about Paige, and honestly she is a pretty big deal. Paige is the same age as me, 21 years old, and she is already become Not Only the very First  NXT Womens Champion but the longest reigning NXT Womens Champion! and she is still going! and than she wins the Divas Championship from the longest reigning Divas Champion, Aj Lee, in her debut match on the night after Raw! Paige is going to be a big deal in the Divas Division for a long, long time! and WWE would make a mistake letting her go in the future over stupid like age or how old she looks! After the Video, Paige is interviewed about her historical debut, Paige cuts this promo that admittedly wasn’t that great, but Paige kind of reminded us why it didn’t matter! During her promo she said that the WWE Universe doesn’t need to know who Paige is, they just need to know what I do in the ring! and admittedly she may not be the best on the mic, but she makes up for it in the ring. In her promo though she did sound a little cocky, so maybe all the fame and success is going to her head?

Camacho vs. Oliver Gray

Hunico’s music plays, but I guess it’s Camacho’s now! but yea he came out, and than Oliver Gray came out making his debut on the WWE Network and his return from almost a year long injury, and this mini feud between these two started off last week, when Camacho interrupted Gray’s interview, to call out Adam Rose, Gray insulted by this challenged Camacho to match! I’m excited to see what Oliver Gray is like, because I have never seen him in action! but surprisingly tonight, it was Camacho who surprised me the most. Camacho dominated majority of the match as Gray got in little to no offense. Camacho looked really good tonight as well! A lot smother in the ring and his punches, kicks and slams look cleaner. I don’t know if Camacho has been training or just worked his ass of tonight, but he needs to do more of that, because he looked really good tonight! Camacho picked up the victory after hitting Gray with a huge slam!

Winner – Camacho

Rating – 6\10: I can’t believe I’m actually saying it, but Camacho had a good match tonight, its the best match I’ve ever seen from him. It seems like Camacho is going to be Adam Rose’s first real challenge and the returning Oliver Gray was his first victim! Camacho showed a more aggressive side tonight and looked 100 times better in the ring tonight than he has any other night! A bit sad to see Gray lose his first match back, but lets see how this plays out. His old Tag Team partner is not the NXT World Champion. So maybe Gray and Neville will rekindle their friendship, or even better, Tear It Apart!

Backstage Interview W/ Bo Dallas

Devin Taylor is backstage with the former NXT World Champion, Bo Dallas, to talk about his failed attempt to occupy NXT! Bo admits it was a failed attempt, but brags about how is Bo-Leivers are Law Abiding Citizens, and event though they wanted to support him, they couldn’t because it was against the Law! Bo than states it is his mission to get the NXT Championship back, and poses! Devin begins to walk away, but Bo stops her and tells her to Don’t Stop Bo-Leiving! Even thought Bo is huge on NXT! I fear for him in WWE, I don’t know how the WWE Universe is going to take his character, and if he can’t shine in a already packed mid-card than he will fail just as fast as he did on his first run on the main roster! I hope I’m wrong thought!

The Ascension (c) ( Konner O’Brian & Rick Viktor) vs. Wesley Blake & Cal Bishop

I expect this to be a one sided beat down, so before I start the match breakdown, I though it would be interesting to note that this is actually the first time Wesley Blake is in a Tag Match on NXT, the commentators stated that, and this also may be Blake’s last tag team match for awhile. Early on Blake hit Konner with some stiff chops, but Konner ate it and dished out his own beat down on Blake, before tagging in Viktor, who took Blake to the outside of the ring and hit him with non stop European Uppercuts and Chops to the Chest! Rick Viktor tossed Blake back into the ring and tagged in Konner who began to hit numerous stiff Toe Kicks to the gut of Blake that ever earned a One More Time Chant from the NXT Universe, which Konner so graciously provided! He than tagged Viktor back in who raced in and took Bishop out, and than he and Konner stalked Wesley in the ring as the set him up and hit him with The Fall of Man to pick up yet another win!

Winners – The Ascension (c)

Rating – 6\10: Even thought I’m ready to see The Ascension in some serious action against some serious competitors, they still manage to make their beat downs entertaining. Unlike most beat downs, The Ascension keeps it different. They don’t beat their opponents the same way every time! The only thing that stays the same is The Finish! but the actual matches are all different, and I appreciate that! but still I’m ready to see the Tag Champs taken to the limit! Either NXT needs more Tag Teams! or WWE needs to call these men up!

Backstage Interview W/ The BFF’s (Sasha Banks & Charlotte)

Devin Taylor is backstage to interview The Beautiful Fierce Females! Devin makes not of Sasha’s back to back losses to both Emma and Bayley! Sasha begins to make up some excuse, when Charlotte comes in and says Sasha just lost! Charlotte goes on to say she is going to rule this entire Divas Division, and next week her and Sasha have a tag match against Emma and her partner of choice, The two than go on to joke about how Emma has no friends, but Charlotte quickly stops the laughing and snaps at Sasha and than goes on to say this company needs a Diva with a little more Flair, and obvious pun on her last name, but I gotta say for the first time ever, we see some dissension between The BFF’s! Charlotte obviously thinks she is better than every diva including Sasha Banks, and I’ll be watching next week to see what happens. We may have a split on our way, but it may be to early!

Cj Parker vs. The Great Khali

Parker comes out first, and it is no secret that the crowd hates him! Parker makes his way down to the ring to boos, but there was one little girl out there dancing with him! Parker went on to cut a promo about how he would prefer to live in a world without the NXT Universe. Stating that without them there would be no animals and his zoos among many other things! He yells at them asking how could you not cheer for a guy like me who wants to save the world! it wasn’t long until The Punjabi Playboy’s music hit and The Great Khali probably got the best crowd reaction of his career! The two went on to have a pretty good match when Khali was in control. Khali may not be the greatest wrestler, but Cj Parker sure can sell his moves, because every time Khali hit Parker it looked like it hurt. From stiff Open Handed Slaps to the Chest to a Huge Boot to the Face! Parker got a little bit of offense in but not much! Khali caught Parker off guard while he was in mid air with a huge chop and followed up with A HUGE Khali Bomb to put away Cj Parker!

Winner – The Great Khali

Rating – 5\10: They made it work tonight. No one expected a perfect match! Khali is not the best wrestler and will never be the best wrestler with the condition his knees are in. Parker and Khali worked with what they had. Khali and be a believable wrestler when he is dominate, its when Khali has to sell the moves when the match gets sloppy! Parker made Khali looks good tonight and honestly gave Khali one of the better matches of his career. I guarantee Khali will remember this night, not only did he have one of his better matches of his career, but he probably got the best crowd reaction of his career. The fact that the NXT Universe Hates Parker really elevated Khali’s popularity, add to the fact he is a familiar face! He got chants from Better Than Batista to Let’s Go Khali! So tonight was a Feel Good Moment for The Great Khali!

Backstage Exclusive W/ Emma

Emma is asked if she has found a partner for her match next week against The BFF’s. Emma admits she has not found a partner, but than a slick smile and says “Or Have I?” as she giggles and walks away!

Backstage Exclusive W/ Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn is asked about his injury, Zayn says he feels fine and that Graves caught him off guard, and he doesn’t want to question the ref’s call, but he believes he could of hung in their, but says he will get his revenge next week when he teams with the WWE Tag Team Champions, The Usos, to takes on Corey Graves and The NXT Tag Team Champions, The Ascension! So that should be fun, Zayn also goes on to state that he doesn’t like Corey Graves, he doesn’t like the kind of person Graves is and says Corey is the kind of guy who needs to be put in his place and the The Usos can expect him to be 100% next week. I’m excited for this match! This is going to be a GREAT match! I can’t wait for next week!

Jason Jordan & Tye Dillinger vs. Sawyer Fulton & Baron Corbin

Only Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger get an entrance here tonight, one would assume their opponents are going to be jobbers, but I don’t know a thing about Jordan or Dillinger. I’m assuming this is their debut witch is great! because The NXT is desperate for more Tag Teams! Jason Jordan is in the ring first with Baron Corbin who is making his debut on The WWE Network tonight! I got to admit, Corbin has got an interesting look! He is a big guy but not your typical Big Guy! I think we may have something here, I hope to see more from him, because even though I thought Fulton and Corbin were going to be jobbers tonight they both looked pretty impressive! Early on Jordan took it to Corbin, but once Dillinger got tagged in things went down hill as Corbin hit Tyler with some impressive heavy strikes and he showed great team work with Sawyer Fulton who gives off this creepy vibe as he beats down on Dillinger, but Tyler managed to tag in Jason Jordan who rushed in and turns things around as he takes is to Fulton, and rushed over to dropkick Corbin off the apron and than tags in Dillinger and hits a impressive shoulder tackle into Fulton’s gut and than lifts him up onto his shoulders as he and Tye hit a Impressive maneuver that kind of resembled of DDT! but Tye covered Fulton for the three!

Winners – Jason Jordan & Tye Dillinger

Rating – 7\10: A Great debut match for both teams tonight! Although I don’t think eithier team would put up a believable threat to the current Tag Champs, but both teams looked impressive here tonight. Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger sort of reminded me of Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas when they were as team known as The World’s Greatest Team or Team Angle! Jason defiantly resembles Benjamin as he his fast and can hit an impressive drop kick mimicking the height Shelton could reach. I can’t honestly say if Dillinger reminds me of Haas though since he received the beat down, but he does look that part. Baron Corbin really caught my eye. He is an impressive superstar he has the big guy feel to him and he certainly hits some heavy strikes, but I have a feeling he is going to need a mouth piece, Fulton on the other hand may not. Just like Corbin Fulton was always pretty impressive in the match up, he had an old school beat him up mentality and he definitely gives off a weird vibe! He could potentially have some skills on the microphone. It is clear we are going to see more of Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger but I hope we see more of Baron Corbin and Sawyer Fulton as well, because these two teams will be great additions to NXT Desperate Tag Division!

Brodus Clay vs. Adrian Neville (c)

It is now time for our main event! Brodus Clay has made it clear that he is a changed man and he does not want to dance anymore! All Brodus Clay wants to do his win the NXT Championship, of course the current World Champion Adrian Neville has a no problem with Clay winning The Championship, but he is going to have to beat him for it, but before he gets a title shot he has to earn it, and tonight is Brodus’s  chance to earn a Title Shot. Early on Neville tried to bump chest with Brodus, but Clay quickly pushed Neville back and Neville rolled back and fired back with  quick forearm to the jaw of Clay! That was about it for Neville, as Brodus quickly turned things around on Neville and kept him locked in numerous submission holds while talking smack to Neville. The Champ manged to break out of Clay’s headlock, after hitting some stiff kicks to Brodus’s sides and than following up with a Jaw Breaker! Neville pulled Clay with all his strength closer to the turnbuckle and he climbed to the top and went for the 450 Splash but Clay moved out of the way, lucky for Neville he manged to land on his feet on roll away from Clay. The two charged at each other and Clay hit a ferocious Head Butt! Brodus went on to beat up on the champ on the out side of the ring and even hit a Scoop Slam on the outside of the ring. Brodus was looking to end Neville when he climbed to the highest point of the steel steps and went for his splash onto Neville, but The Champion manged to move out of the way and get in the ring before the ten count causing Brodus to land right on his face on the outside, but lose by count out!

Winner – Adrian Neville (c)

Rating – 6\10: Brodus manged to show off his strength and also bore us with to many submissions, but watching the NXT Champion prevail once again is great! and the neat thing about Neville is he doesn’t fit your typical defy the odds champion. Its not like Neville comes back and hits his 5 moves and than hits his finisher! Perfect evidence is tonight! Neville could of put Clay away with the 450, but they chose to got a different way and still make it seem like their is a chance Brodus can beat Neville. These two are no where close to being done as evident to after the match how upset Brodus was as he tried to charge the ring, but The Champion landed and perfect Drop Kick to send Brodus packing to the back!

Superstar of the Night – Camacho

I can’t believe I’m awarding this to Camacho of all people! I have commented on Camacho’s horrible matches in the past, but tonight there was something different. It may have been a dominating performance, but he wasn’t sloppy and his moves looked good. He picked up a victory over a returning and debuting Oliver Gray tonight. All the attention was on Gray and everyone expected a victory. Camacho surprised us all as he pulled out the best match of his career in my opinion and picked up an impressive victory over former NXT Tag Team Champion, Oliver Gray. It seems Camacho wants revenge on Adam Rose for embarrassing him a couple weeks ago in their match, and with all the attention on Rose’s debut to the WWE Main Roster, Camacho could greatly benefit in this feud. For the first time ever things are looking up for Camacho!

Tonight, no one really stood out. Honestly this wasn’t the best NXT! With Bo really being in the only match that wasn’t practically a squash, he was really the only one qualified. Along with this change to his character and his debut in the WWE coming up things are looking up for Bo Dallas. Just goes to show what happens when you Don’t Stop Bo-Lieving!
