West Coast Indie/Alt Project Reisender Release New Album “Fmly” + New “Naked Eyes” Music Video!
Let’s face it, we have been drastically ignoring artists from our own region, especially when there are so many talented acts right at our fingertips. On today’s dive into the indie world we are checking out “Naked Eyes”, the latest drop from the alternative duo Reisender. This West Coast indie/alt project began back in 2016, beginning their career by dropping their debut EP New Year. Reisender quickly joined forces with Emmy-nominated producers Rob Marshall and Nic Gracia, also known as The Canvas Group, who would add their skillset to multiple releases over Reisender’s five-year career. The duo’s latest album release, Fmly, was also produced by The Canvas Group and is the culmination of everything they have learned since their inception. Determined to shift from the normal indie pop-rock resurgence we are currently seeing, Fmly combines elements of West Coast indie pop and 1980s German Neue Welle to create an oddly nostalgic yet modern sound that we will gladly accept.
“The story told through the lyrics of ‘Naked Eyes’ is one of sensual melancholy; It’s the idea that humans can exist entirely online and create for themselves a brand new, synthetic existence. “With this comes a darker side, defined by loneliness and anxiety. 2020 was a year that navigated more people online than ever, and it became common to know someone personally profiting from self-promotion. Whether it be Instagram influencers, Tiktok Stock forecasters, Twitch streamers, or Onlyfans creators, the marketplace of the ‘designer personality’ has come to define the younger generation.” – Paul Conroy (Vocalist)
Let us put it out there right now, we are absolutely thrilled when a project like Reisender comes around and introduces us to their own take on the indie-pop norm. While the entire Fmly album definitely deserves a listen, we will be focusing on their newest music video for their latest single “Naked Eyes”. Not afraid to make commentary on today’s society, the track explores the idea that anyone can exist entirely online, essentially cutting off their connection to the natural world. Reisender uses almost dream-like synths and a groovy guitar instrumental to highlight the track’s lyrics, gently masking a darker conversation in wondrous West Coast indie pop feels. In a homage to international cinema, “Naked Eyes” actually samples from the 1930 film “The Blue Angel” which tells a cautionary tale of love and obsession and stars infamous femme fatal Marlene Dietrich. If you are entirely interested in someone who is tweaking the formula of indie-pop music, Reisender needs to be in your rotation.
