Tim Van Werd Takes Inspiration From Icarus & Daedalus in New Cinematic EP “Icarus”

Today’s drop shows that regardless of who you are, inspiration can come from anywhere. On our latest visit over to Protocol Recordings we are checking out Icarus, a brand new EP from Tim Van Werd. Unlike many producers in similar positions, Van Werd’s love for music came through the lens of classical and jazz, showing interest in the drums, trumpet, and piano. This versatile interest in music heavily influenced his early sound, further pushing Van Werd to break the traditional rules of genre in music. Earning support early on in his career from the likes of Hardwell and Nicky Romero, Van Werd truly broke through the noise when he released his hit “Balkan Disco” which has now amassed over 4 million plays. Van Werd has followed up with multiple successful singles that have caught the eyes of many playmakers in the industry, with “On Your Side” being his ninth release on Protocol.

While we definitely don’t put a producer like Tim Van Werd in a box with other producers, the last thing we expected for him to drop was a new EP pulling from Greek mythology. Man, inspiration really can come from anywhere. Anyway, Icarus is a brand new three-track EP that uses the tale of Icarus and Daedalus as its framework. The EP doesn’t focus on the beginning of the story, instead highlighting the duo’s well-known escape and resulting death as individual tracks.  Due to the dramatic nature of the piece, this Icarus EP is a perfect stage for Van Werd to further spread is deep, groovy, and progressive sound to the masses. The EP is truly cinematic, building tension throughout each track until it climaxes with an emotional instrumental in “Across The Sky”, bringing Van Werd’s interpretation of Icarus’s story to a close. With this latest drop, Van Werd has quickly become a producer that we truly don’t know what to expect from…next time it could be absolutely anything.
