Singer/Songwriter The Sunshine State Release “Favorite Person”, Brutally Honest Modern Love Ballad
Even if you have a major hurdle in your life that puts your plans on hold for a while, if you can surpass it and continue your journey…it was the road you were supposed to take. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Favorite Person”, the latest single from The Sunshine State. Originally hailing from our second home of Las Vegas, The Sunshine State founder Skyler Stonestreet moved to Los Angeles after graduating high school to pursue a career in music. However, after the move, Skyler was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to put her pursuits on hold. After kicking cancer’s ass, Skyler now uses it as a driving force for her creativity and music inspiration, leading to a rather successful career in just a few years. Officially releasing her debut single “Cliff Dive” back in 2020, Skyler has since released multiple singles under her own umbrella as well as writing songs for the likes of Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, Hailee Steinfeld, and many more.

While we appreciate the concept of a singer and their solo instrument belting out their feelings, there has to be more to have us absolutely hooked. The Sunshine State takes this concept and sculpts “Favorite Person” into a modern-day love ballad meant for those in complicated relationships. Painfully honest and raw, The Sunshine State strips back the majority of the track’s production to allow the message/story to shine through while allowing minimal indie-pop instrumentals to serve as a framework. The Sunshine State found just the right balance of ambient vocals, dreamy soundscapes, and minimal indie-pop to mold into their own sound. The Sunshine State will continue to release music and build up until they release their debut EP in 2022, so we can’t wait to see what direction The Sunshine State takes.
