Protocol Fresh Blood Marcus Santoro Drop “Blackout” Taste of Big Room Trance in 2020
We may have started to know him with his debut back in late-2019, but we aren’t exactly friendly just yet. On our latest stop off at Protocol we have “Blackout”, a brand new track from Protocol fresh blood Marcus Santoro. Marcus Santoro is still relatively new on the scene, but with a few notches under his belt. Since originally joining the scene, Santoro has released multiple tracks and remixes on the Enhanced, Armada, and Flashover labels finally settling in with Protocol. Sentinel is even newer on the scene, but they show solid promise when paired with another talent. We can’t wait to see what these artists bring to the Protocol lineup.
While throughout 2019 Protocol’s lineup was relatively busy keeping the progressive house genre pumping blood through its veins, there is still room under the banner for variety. Marcus Santoro breaks from the mold, showing us his take on how melodic trance should sound in 2020. Taking the “Blackout” title to heart, Santoro crafts an unreal image of floating and weightlessness. Lauren L’aimant’s surreal vocals wrap around us, lifting us up along with the rising upbeat tempo. With “Blackout” being his second release under the Protocol banner, we have a clear idea of how Marcus Santoro is remaking the wheel that has been essential so far. If this is an example of big room trance in 2020, we need a full EP ASAP.
