Part Rockstar & Part Vaudeville Mime, Talented Artist Rilan Releases New Sad Boy R&B Single “Sad”
Our final song of the week begs an interesting question, is happiness often worth the pursuit? On this week’s dive into the indie world we are checking out “Sad”, the newest single from the talented Rilan. While he may still be blossoming as a musician, Rilan has already accomplished quite a bit in his young career. Coming from a musical theater background, Rilan was a consistent regular on the sixth season of Glee as a Warbler. He even dabbled in the world of fashion, designing and showcasing a line of denim and vegan leather jackets at NYFW 2017. Definitely not taking a break for a beat, Rilan has worked with acclaimed producer Dallas Austin (TLC, Madonna, P!nk, Gwen Stefani) and superb choreographer Richy Jackson (Lady Gaga). Without any major assistance from a music label, Rilan has independently grown a sizeable audience and has amassed over a million streams online!
With such a unique perception of life, it is no wonder that Rilan has found his place among the indie music masses. While we would love to dive into his persona a bit, we actually think that he has already found his own label that couldn’t be more accurate. He’s part sad clown, part Vaudeville mime, and part rockstar; like the boy-next-door but you live next door to an abandoned Vaudevillian theatre. His hauntingly attractive presence oozes out of his latest single, “Sad”, taking that sad boy motif we’ve been experiencing in rap and injecting it into the world of dance music. The track succeeds from a blend of smooth and groovy beats combined with Rilan’s sultry and ethereal vocal performance, creating an emotional yet vibing R&B song. In the midst of the continued global pandemic, the track explores the theme of whether we are content with staying sad…or is it worth aiming for happiness?
