Organ Trail: Can You Survive the Zombies Until Oregon?
Hello Everybody!
So I am finally actually doing a video game review. I haven’t done one of these in a while. I have a couple of them for you this week, I have been quite the busy gamer. We shall see if it pays off 😀
TITLE: Organ Trail
DEVELOPER: The Men Who Wear Many Hats
GENRE: Adventure
YEAR: 2012
The first thing I have to mention is that this review is based off of the adobe flash version of the game, not the director’s cut. I was really surprised to come across this game, as I heard about it from a friend of a friend and was interested. I am, after all, a huge horror themed geek when it comes to this kind of stuff, and I remembered always playing the Oregon Trail in my classroom when I was younger. Let’s just say, I learned what dysentery was way to early in my life.
Organ Trail is a retro zombie survival game that is a parody of the original survival game, the Oregon Trail. The whole point of the game is to reach the state of Oregon, where a safe haven exists. You have to manage your rations to have your whole caravan survive! You begin in Washington DC, where you have 32 hours to scavenge whatever you can for the trip. Use this time wisely as you don’t get much more time throughout the game without dealing with the zedds. You travel through many landmarks and cities across the country on your way to the safe haven of Oregon.
What I like the most of about Organ Trail is all of that nostalgia. As I mentioned above, I remember playing Oregon Trail when I was much younger in class. The creator combined my my favorite survival game with my favorite horror creatures! I still play Oregon Trail today, but for now I have moved to the slightly updated version (Organ Trail). Another cool edition to the game is the ability to scavenge while on the road for food. Boy is it necessary if you don’t stock up correctly.
Being swarmed trying to get that precious food!
Now to the good part, what do I not like about it. All of the main injuries that happen to the members of your caravan happen at random, but some of the reasons are just plain stupid. The most common injury that happened to my caravan was that one of the women kept breaking her damn leg. It was ridiculous, like every 200 miles. I was also disappointed that dysentery did not occur as much as it did in Oregon Trail. One reason that kept occurring is that some of your members will just randomly wander off and end up not being found. It would be better in that sense if it at least gave you the chance to find them, you need all of the people you can get!
If you would like to give Organ Trail a try, you can try the free version at the first link and the Director’s Cut at the second. You can also try Organ Trail on the IOs and Android Market at links 3 and 4 respectively.
