NYC Singer/Songwriter Marina Laurendi Releases Cinematic Neo-Noir Single “Upper East Side”

With how open the indie and alternative music space is nowadays, the gates are unlocked for almost any artist that is willing to grab their instruments and head under the spotlight. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Upper East Side”, the latest single from Marina Laurendi. If modern New York speakeasies and film noir met in a side alley and decided to make sweet music, it would sound just like an artist like Marina. Hailing from Western New York, Marina was surrounded by the glitz and glamour of the big city all of her life. Originally a theater performer by trade Marina moved to NYC after college to perform off-Broadway throughout the city and along the East Coast. She even received the chance  to perform at a handful of notable venues such as The Bitter End in NYC, Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls, Nietzsche’s and Mr. Goodbar in Buffalo, and The Orleans County Fairgrounds (Tedfest V). Marina has received quite a bit of praise from tastemakers and major playlists due to the great reception around her debut EP Stay Mine, and has now evolved into a full-fledged artist + singer/songwriter combo!

“This song is so special to me. It’s a love letter to the UES and to NY. It was the closure I needed to move forward into my next chapter. I wrote it looking back at the three and a half years I spent in the city, all I had learned, all the wild experiences I had, and I was so grateful for all of it, even the letdowns and heartbreaks” – Marina Laurendi

When it comes to our bread and butter, rock music and EDM, we can normally pull a single element of a track right out of the gate and latch onto it. The more we’ve been diving deep into the alt-pop world, the more we’re recognizing just how much we are in love with more cinematic artists. Riding high off her debut EP Stay MineMarina continues to develop and evolve her “smoke room pop” sound into a full audible experience. While “Upper East Side” may be our first introduction to Marina’s addictive fusion of soft piano, melodic guitars, and hauntingly cinematic vocals, we are already completely sold. We can definitely see “Upper East Side” being an instant classic in the alt-pop scene, with this single being a top-tier addition to Marina’s catalog.  When are we getting Marina to sing on another Bond spy thriller? That’s truly what we need.
