Nicky Romero Swaps To Monocule For New Sultry Tech-House Single “Your Eyes” With LAMAS (BR)
Even though you have branched out and exploring as your alter ego, you can still aid newcomers on the rise. On our latest visit over at Protocol we are taking a look at “Your Eyes”, the latest drop from Monocule and LAMAS (BR). Romero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. Romero continues to surprise us, even dropping a mini-doc series back in 2019 and multiple successful releases now that he’s back on the wagon. Hell, he even put on one hell of a performance at the London opening of the Call of Duty League eSports tournament. Romero’s list of accomplishments keeps growing, now including a brand new partnership with Fader Pro and a release of his own NFT collection!
Even though we always equate any single with Romero attached to progressive house or at this point dance-pop, we need to suspend our disbelief and let Romero swap skins real quick. By far Monocule’s darkest single yet, “Your Eyes” is a pure tech-house single through and through, almost feeling a bit too polished for the underground club. On this latest venture Monocule joins forces with newcomer LAMAS (BR), with each producer taking their turns coaxing the deep and ravenous bassline to life. While “Your Eyes” opens with a haunting and enticing female vocal hook, that quickly subsides for the right amount of pure bass to satisfy our rhythmic urges. Romero’s music as Monocule is quickly becoming more interesting than his normal music, and we can’t wait to see if they move forward in tandem.
