Nicky Romero Releases Underground Dancefloor Filler “Mahoya,” Featuring Kenyan Vocals, From Upcoming “Nightvision” EP

We swear, every time we check in on Nicky Romero he’s tweaking and adjusting his formula, even if it is just by a bit every time. On our latest visit to Protocol Recordings we are checking out “Mahoya”, the latest drop from label boss Nicky Romero. Romero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. Romero continues to surprise us, even dropping a mini-doc series back in 2019 and multiple successful releases now that he’s back on the wagon. Hell, he even put on one hell of a performance at the London opening of the Call of Duty League eSports tournament. Romero’s list of accomplishments keeps growing, now including a multiple new partnerships as Romero continues to explore more avenues to further expand his influence.

Nicky Romero’s latest single, “Mahoya,” emerges as a powerful global force with a distinctly underground vibe, marking a significant addition to his upcoming Nightvision EP. This track, the second in the EP with a club-centered focus, not only showcases Romero’s evolving musical direction but also serves as the central sonic motif for his highly anticipated debut open-to-close solo performance. Scheduled for December 2nd at the renowned AFAS Live venue in Amsterdam, this milestone event promises an immersive experience for electronic music enthusiasts.

The captivating allure of “Mahoya” lies in its ingenious use of Kenyan vocals, which infuse the composition with an enchanting tribal essence. Nicky Romero masterfully raises the stakes by introducing compelling piano chords that seamlessly transition into a rich and immersive deep bassline, complemented by an array of rhythmic synths. The track’s meticulous engineering is a testament to Romero’s artistry, strategically designed to captivate audiences and elicit an instinctive connection on the dance floor.
